Sylhet Utsav in Kolkata from Dec 26

A get-together of International level Sylhet-origin people is going to be held in Kolkata on the occasion of three-day long Sylhet Utsav, which will begin from December 26. Sources said the Indo-Bangla Sylhet Utsav, arranged by Jalalabad Association, a platform of Sylhet people live in Dhaka, in cooperation with South Kolkata Sylhet Association, will be held there at Jodhpur High School playground. The this year’s Sylhet Utsav would be dedicated to folk artist and also UNESCO award recipient Shah Abdul Karim, sources added. Moreover, his ‘Agey Ki Shundor Din Kataitam’ song has been chosen as the theme song of the festival. However, a 300-member Bangladesh delegation led-by the finance minister AMA Muhith is scheduled to attend the program.
CoUJA elections held

The executive committee election 2014-15 of Comilla University Journalists’ Association (CoUJA) was held on December 11, electing president, vice-president, secretary-general, executive member and other posts of the association, declared by Election Commissioners on 21st December. The Election Commission announced the election results about 10 days later due to the admission tests of Comilla University. A total of 13 member journalists of National Daily participated in the elections process.A total of nine candidates elected for nine posts of the committee. Rabiul Hoque Robi of Daily Manob Zamin elected for the post of President and Rasel Mahmud of Daily Vhorer Kagoj elected for the post of General Secretary. Mayen Uddin Elahi conducted the election as the Chief Election Commissioner while Mahbubuzzaman Shamim and Md. Nasir Uddin acted as deputy election commissioner. Mizan Uddin, vice-president (BanglaNews), Tofael Ahmad, Joint Secretary (Daily Khobor Patro), Muhammad Shafiullah, Treasurer (Daily Ittefaq), Md. Motiur Rahman, Office Secretary (Daily Shokaler Khabor), Abdullah-Al-Musayeb, Information and Library Secretary (The New Nation), Md. Abdur Rahman and Md. Alamgir elected for the post of executive member.
BAU teachers form human chain

Teachers of Gonotantrik Shikshok Forum, a pro Awami League teachers association of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Thursday formed human chain protesting the derogatory comment of Senior Vice-President of BNP, Tarique Rahman. On Thursday at about 12:00pm, around 100 teachers formed the human chain in front of BAU central library. Conducted by Acting Secretary of Gonotantrik Shikshok Forum Prof Dr Golam Sarwar, president of the organization Prof Dr Manzurul Alam presided over the programme. Among others, students affairs advisor Prof Dr Zahirul Haque Khandoker, associate students affairs advisor Prof Dr Alamgir Hossain, assistant proctor Prof Dr Md Al Mamun, Prof Dr Sultan Uddin Bhuiyan, Prof Dr Abul Khayer Chowdhury, Prof Dr Shangkar Kumar Raha, Prof Dr Abdur Rahman Sarker, Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain, spoke on the programme.In the Human chain speakers said, Tarique’s such talking is not new now-a-days.
Slaughtered body of housewife recovered in Barisal

Slaughtered dead body of a housewife recovered from own residence at Chandramohon Bazaar under Sadar upazila of Barisal on Monday. The victim was identified as Saleha Begum, 44, wife of Yunus Matubbar of the area. Rezaul Islam, officer in charge of Barisal Bandar police station, said husband and son of the victim went to mosque for performing Fazr Prayer. After returning to the house the husband and son found slaughtered dead body lying on floor and informed police. Police recovering dead body sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. None was arrested in this connection and preparation for lodging case going on till this report, the police officer said.
