Land Surveyor held with bribe in Kishoreganj

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) detained a Senior Surveyor of Kishoreganj Sadar Land Office red-handed with Tk 10,000 bribe on Wednesday noon. The arrested person is identified as Md. Giasuddin (59) , a Senior Surveyor of Kishoreganj Sadar Land Office. ACC Deputy Director, Mymensingh Coordinated Rejion Md. Jahangir Alam confirmed the matter to The New Nation. A graft case was filed in this connection with Sadar Model Police Station. Giasuddin sent to Kishoreganj District Jail.
School boy commits suicide in Dupchanchia

 A teenaged school boy took his life by hanging himself at his home at Panapara Village under Dupchanchia Sadar Upazilla of Bogura district on Tuesday fternoon. The deceased named Saju (16) was the son of Kamrul Islam and a student of class 10 at local Shapla High school. At afternoon, on the day of incident, the poor boy secretly tied a rope with the ceiling of an abandoned room in the ground floor and strangled him to death. The reason for his suicide was unknown. A shadow of mourning has come down in the whole area along with his relatives, friends and classmates for the premature death of this student.
5 accused held in Bagha Upazila

Members of law enforcing agency in separate drive arrested five charge-sheeted accused from Bagha upazila of Rajshahi on early Tuesday. The charge-sheeted accused are- Moniruzzaman (26), son of Akar Sardar, Jahangir Alam (42), son of late Kayem Uddin, Masud Rana (32), son of Zillur Rahman, Nur Islam (45), son of Akshed Ali and Liton (30), son of Makkel Ali, residents of the upazila. Officer in charge of Bagha police station Mohosin Ali confirmed the matter adding that the members of police conducted a drive in different areas of the upazila. At that time, the five accused were arrested.The accused was sent to jail after producing them before a court. OC Mohosin Ali said.
500 kg Jatka seized from two launches

The members of Chandpur Coast Guard seized 500 kilograms of jatka from two Dhaka bound passenger launches at the Meghna Mohona area near Chandpur launch ghat on early Tuesday. Led by the station commander Lft Md Enayetullah , the drives were launched acting on a tip off. The launches were identified as MV Coco-1 and MV Prince of Russel -V. While the passenger launches were heading towards Dhaka passing by Chandpur ghat, they were intercepted and challenged in the middle of the Meghna river at Mohona area. The coastguard members launched the drives and seized the jatka contained in big drums. From MV Coco-1 launch, 450 kgs of jatkas was seized and from MV Prince of Russel-v launch, 50 kilograms of jatka was seized-said the station Commander Lft M Enayetullah. But no owners of the seized jatkas were found. On Tuesday noon, all the seized jatkas were distributed among the poor and distressed people and over 400 orphans studying in 15 madrasas and orphanages in the district town.
Man held with firearms, bombs in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a man along with a pistol, two rounds of bullet, four Molotov bombs and 10 crude bombs from Bhakum village in Singair upazila early Tuesday. The arrestee is Tamij Uddin, 55. Major Abdul Hakim of Rab-4, said that hiding his identity, Tamij Uddin informed Rab over phone that a huge quantity of arms and bomb making materials were kept at the village. On information, a team of Rab conducted a drive at the village around 3 am and recovered the arms and the bombs near the house of Baser Fakir. However, tracking Tamij Uddin’s mobile phone number the Rab team arrested him. During primary interrogation, Tamij confessed that he had kept the arms and bombs beside the house of Baser as Tamij’s son Rakib is an accused in a case over the murder of Baser’s son Russel. Tamij’s family had been pressurizing Baser to withdraw the case, said Baser, reports UNB.
