One killed in road mishap in Bagerhat

An old passerby was killed on the spot in a road mishap took place on Khulna-Mongla Highway near at Katakhali under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday noon. The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali (80), son of one late Ansar Ali of village Hakimpur under Sadar Upazila in the same district. It is learnt from the police of Katakhali Highway PS (under Fakirhat Upazila) that at noon when the ill-fated old man was crossing the road at the point of the place of occurrence a speeding passenger bus that was going from Khulna to Mongla ran over him. As a result, he was fatally injured and died on the spot. Police seized the bus. But its both driver and helper managed to escape.
4-day drama festival begins at RU

A four-day drama festival will begin at Rajshahi University (RU) from on Tuesday. The students of seventeenth batch of RU Theatre department will organize the festival at theatre lab of Syed Ismail Hossain Siraji Bhaban of the university .Directed by the department’s assistant professor Kaushik Sarkar, ‘The Father’ a drama of August Strindberg will be exhibited. The play will depict that captain Adlof and Lora’s has a daughter named Bartha. Captain Adlof has remained pensive every moment for his daughter Bartha’s future. But his wife Lora had been trying to establish supremacy on her daughter Bartha’s life and her own family alone by adopting illegal means. For this, Lora had been starting conspiracy against her husband Adlof. At a stage, Adlof passes away for his wife Lora’s conspiracy. The department students Nazmus Shakib, Hasibul Hasan Dipto, Tamanna Zahan Neli, Sanjid Islam Prottasha, Nishuti Sarkar, Priyanka Shen, Farzana Hasan, Sonchita Roy, Shohan Ahmed, Shraboni, Orthi, Barsha, Mimi, Partha, Shawan, Sourov, Partha Sharothi, Dulok Mojumdar, Himangshu Chandra, Partha Protim were performed in the play.
Winter Festival held in Panchagarh
PANCHAGARH: A festival to celebrate the winter was held with hundreds of children, their guardians and teachers at Pilot High School ground in Tetulia upazila on Monday. In the festival, approximately 6,000 minor students from 38 educational institutions in the upazila were provided with warm clothes while their parents and teachers were also present. After the warm clothes distribution a cultural programme was held with performance of local artists. Every year Shishu Sharga Foundation with the aid from former students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organise the festival to minimize the suffering from cold of underprivileged children. Shishu Sharga Foundation (Children’s Heaven Foundation) organised the festival where former secretary of Food Ministry Md Kaikobad Hossain, Additional secretary of Public Administration Ministry Din Mohammad, Dr Saidur Rahman Selim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Tetulia Md Saniul Ferdous, Shishu Sharga Foundation’s founder Md Kabir Ahmed were present, reports UNB.
College student ‘commits suicide’ in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A college student reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence at Rajpara in the city on Monday. The deceased was identified as Ishtiaque Omi, 20, a Class XII student of Rajshahi Cantonment Board School and College and son of Masud Ahmed, hailing from Srirampur area in Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj district. There had been an altercation between Omi and his father at noon over some family affairs, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station. Later, Omi went to his room.As there was no response from the room till 5 pm, his family member broke the door and found the body hanging from the room. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, reports UNB.
