30-Kg venison recovered from Sundarbans

Thirty kgs venison of spotted deer and a country boat were recovered by the forest guards from Chila area under Chandpai Forest Range in the Eastern Division of Sundarbans at Monday night, according to a report received here. In this connection a case was lodged with Mongla PS under the Forest Act. It is learnt from Mahmudul Hasan, DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of the Eastern Division of Sundarbans (in Bagerhat district) that at the night while the forest guards of Karamjal Forest Office were discharging their normal patrol duties in the forest they found a country boat in a river of the forest and when they challenged it the poachers boards fled away leaving the boat there. Forest guards seized the boat, searched it and recovered 30 kgs venison from it. The recovered venison was sent to the court.
Pistol, drugs seized in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized a pistol, bullets, three magazines and 25 bottles of contraband phensidyl syrup from Raghaboti along Singnagar bordering area in Shibganj upazila on Wednesday night. A patrol team of BGB-53 challenged a man who was standing along the border with a bag around 7:30 pm, said a BGB press release. Sensing danger, the man fled the scene leaving the bag abandoned. Later, the BGB members recovered a pistol, three magazines, seven bullets and 25 bottles of phensidyl from inside the bag, reports UNB.
Construction worker dies in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A construction worker died after falling off the rooftop of an under-construction building in the district town recently. The deceased was identified as Alamgir, 35, son of ObaidUllah of Sholla in Faridganj upazila. Witnesses said Alamgir suddenly fell down from the 4th floor of the under-construction building while working there and died on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue, reports UNB.
Rajshahi woman gives birth to quadruplets
RAJSHAHI: A woman gave birth to quadruplets, two boys and two girls, at a hospital in the city on Tuesday. The woman, identified as Najneen Nahar,28, wife of Mamunur Rashid of Mohadanga village under Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila, gave birth to the babies at a private hospital ‘Motherland Infertility hospital’ in the city. According to the family sources, Najneen was admitted to the hospital after she went into labour pain on Monday. On the following day, she gave birth to the first baby after the gynecologist of the hospital Fatema Siddika conducted a surgery around 3:30pm and, three others, later, saw the light in the evening. Baby boys weighed four pounds each while the girls only two pounds. All four infants along with their mother are in good health. Family members were anxious about the possible fatality of the delivery that thankfully did not eventuate. But, they are still in trouble with financial crisis as the father of the new born ekes out family livelihood by toiling at an auto-rice mill in the city, reports UNB.
Housewife commits suicide’in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A housewife reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a mango tree near their house at Mahdipur village in Bagha upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Ismat Ara Begum, 26, wife of Mitul Hossain, an Italy expatriate. Quoting locals, police said Ismat Ara has been rebuked by her father-in-law over beating her six-year-old son for playing with dust at their yard in the afternoon. Being failed to bear the insult, Ismat Ara went out from her house and hanged herself from a mango tree. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Mohsin Ali, officer-in-charge of Bagha Police Station, reports UNB.
