Muktijudder Bijoy Utshab begins in Narsingdi

A six-day Muktijudder Bijoy Utshab (victory festival of liberation war) to motivate and inform the real history of liberation war to the new generation began at Muslehuddin Bhuiyan stadium on Wednesday. State Minister for Water Resources Lt. Col. (Retd) Nazrul Islam Hiro (Birpratik) formally inaugurated the Bijoy Utshab. District Administration, Muktijuddah Sangsad and Shilpakala Academy jointly are jointly organizing the Bijoy Utshab. Deputy Commissioner Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman chaired the inauguration . Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Suriaya Begum gave the opening speech Police Super Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Civil Surgeon Putul Roy, former principal of Narsingdi Government College Golam Mostafa Miah, Zila Muktijuddah Commander Abdul Motaleb Patan Sadar, upazila Muktijuddah Commander Pobitra Ranjan Mohadev and Polash upazila commander Mozammel Haque spoke on the occasion. The State Minister said freedom fighters are the pride of the nation and their sacrifices could not be repaid. Bangladesh emerged as an independent and sovereign state for the sacrifices of those valiant sons.

CARE Bangladesh distributes blankets in Rangpur

CARE Bangladesh through its Social and Economic Transformation of the Ultra-Poor (SETU) Project distributed blankets among cold-hit poor people of Mominpur union under Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon. The blankets were distributed among 100 beneficiary families of SETU Project at a ceremony arranged at Mominpur union parishad premises under financial assistance of the Industrial Development Leasing Company (IDLC) Finance Limited. Panel chairman of Mominpur union Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Lebu distributed the blankets among the extremely poor families in the ceremony as the chief guest. Project Manager of SETU Project of CARE Bangladesh Hafizur Rahman Sheikh delivered welcome speech on the occasion. Members of Mominpur union Aminul Islam, Rezaul Islam Raju, Mrs. Sarifunnahar, Ummey Habiba Dulali attended the ceremony as the special guests with union parishad Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun in the chair. Representatives of IDLC Finance Limited Mizanur Rahman and Shafiq Ali, CARE Bangladesh representative Nure Alam Siddique and officials of SETU Project of CARE Bangladesh were present.

1 killed , 9 injured in Bogra road mishap

Dupchanchia ( Bogra) Correspondent

A passenger-bus and a loaded truck collision killed one person and injured nine near Shajahanpur Upazila Parishad on Bogra-Dhaka highway in Bogra on early Thursday. The deceased was identified as Harunur Rashid, 45, son of Motalleb Alam of Board bazzar area of sadar upazila of Gaibandha district and driver of the bus. The injured were identified Lucky, 36, Fahim, 10, Razzak, 39, Shobhan, 40, Rubel, 30 and the identity of the rest injured were not found. Police source said that a Gaibandha-bound bus of Hanif paribahan and a Dhaka-bound maize-laden truck collided head on and the deceased driver of the bus was encircled in his seat and after cutting rode he was removed as dead and the injured passengers were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital (SZMCH) for treatment.
