Elderly woman stabbed to death in Munshiganj
Munshiganj: A sexagenarian woman was stabbed to death by some miscreants at East Bejgaon village in rinagar upazila on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Alaeya Begum, 60, wife of Atahar Khan of the village.Miscreants swooped on the house of Aleya when she was alone and hit her with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead on the spot, said Yunus Ali, officer-in-charge of Srinagar Police Station.When Aleya’s son Didar came to his house he found his mother lying in a pool of blood. Later, she was taken to upazila health complex where the doctors declared Aleya dead.On information, police recovered the body and sent it to local hospital morgue. Police said she might have been killed following dispute over the ownership of a piece of land, reports UNB
Construction worker dies in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A construction worker died after falling off the rooftop of an under-construction building in the district town on Monday. The deceased was identified as Alamgir, 35, son of ObaidUllah of Sholla in Faridganj upazila. Witnesses said Alamgir suddenly fell down from the 4th floor of the under-construction building while working there and died on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue, reports UNB.
Workshop on cyber security, CBS held in Rangpur
RANGPUR : Sonali Bank Limited (SBL) held a training workshop on ‘Cyber security and implementation of core banking solution (CBS) without sharing user password and cyber security awareness and business process improvement using IT’ here on Saturday. The SBL divisional general manager’s office organised the daylong event at BRAC Training centre in the city. Officials and concerned employees of the SBL working in the division participated in the training workshop. Chief information officer and IT experts of the SBL from its head office Omar Farooque Khandker attended the workshop as the chief guest with general manager of its Rangpur Divisional General Managers’ Office Enamul Haque in the chair. Enamul Haque discussed the importance of implementation of the CBS, security threats in networking and SWIFT for ensuring complete security in the banking system and resisting hacking of information by the hackers. The chief guest suggested the officials, IT experts and employees of SBL involved with using computers and related software to ensure compliance of precautionary directions, suggestions and instructions to resist hacking of information in the banking systems, reports BSS.
Fire guts five shops in Satkhira
SATKHIRA:At least five shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Budhhata bazar in Ashashuni upazila on Tuesday night. The fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop named M/S Bismillah Hardwar around 9:30 pm and spread soon to the adjacent shops, said Biplab Kumar Nath, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police Station. On information, a firefighting unit from the nearest station rushed there and extinguished the blaze within 30 minutes of the incident. Meanwhile, the affected shop owners claimed that valuables worth Tk one crore were gutted in the fire, reports UNB.
