The 11th biennial conference of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, district unit was held at Swadhinatar Potaka Moncho of district Shilpakala Academy in Kurigram on Sunday.On the theme of “Make unity with song and slogan”, Chilmari upazila chairman Shawkat Ali Birbikram inaugurated the conference by hoisting the national flag.President of the Udichi district committee former Prof. of English Tapan Kumar Rudra hoisted Udichi’s flag and the participants in the national anthem. Secretary Manik Chowdhury delivered welcome speech. The programme was conducted by journalist Yousuf Alamgir.A discussion meeting was also held at the Swadhinatar Potaka Moncho with Prof. Tapan Kumar Rudra in the chair. Later, a colourful rally was brought put to mark the occasion.The speakers stressed the need for upholding the awareness of liberation war and practicing Bengali culture. A new committee was formed for the next two years at the concluding session of the conference.
Blood group test programme in Narsingdi jail held

Narsingdi Jail authority arranged blood group test programme for prisoners in observance of the Victory Day-2014 on Sunday. Under the programme about three hundred prisoners in Narsingdi jail participated in the blood group test programme. DC Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman attended the function as Chief Guest while jail superintend Mohammad Zakir Hossain delivered the opening speech. The chief guest said blood group test is an excellent preparation as any accident may need blood. So it is important for all to know the blood group. He said we are human being and to err is human. We should not do any kinds of mischief which hurt our family members.
One stabbed to death by brother-in-law in Sharankhola

Rafiq Hawladar (42), son of one Sekendar Ali Hawlaadar of village Badhal-Malsa within Dhansgar Union under Sharankhola Upazila in the district was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law (wife’s brother) Zakir over the transaction of money. The incident took place in the village on Monday in the morning. It is learnt from the police and the locals that Zakir borrowed a sum of Tk.70 thousand from Tahmina Begum, sister of deceased Rafiq Hawladar long ago. But he did not return the money, though he was repeatedly requested on several occasions. On the day in the morning Rafiq went to the house of Zakir of the same village and requested him (Zakir) to refund the money. Following this an altercation took place between the two and at one stage when the altercation reached its climax Zakir became excited and penetrated a dagger into the chest of Rafiq. As a result, he was fatally injured.
