2nd Guatemalan migrant child dies in US custody

An eight-year-old migrant from Guatemala died in government custody on Tuesday, US Customs and Border Protection said, the second child fatality in US detention this month.
The boy, who was with his apprehended father, had been transferred to a New Mexico medical center showing signs of sickness on Monday, the agency said.

10 pro-govt troops killed in Hodeida

Ten pro-government troops have been killed and 143 wounded in Hodeida province since a truce took effect last week, an official for the Saudi-led coalition backing the loyalists said Tuesday. It was the first time the coalition has said pro-government forces have been killed since the fragile ceasefire entered into force on December 18.

Iran held talks with Afghan Taliban

Iran has held talks with the Afghan Taliban, one of the country’s top security officials said, the Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.
“The Afghan government has been informed of the communications and talks carried out with the Taliban, and this process will continue,” said Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, according to Tasnim.

10 dead in bus crash at Iran university

Ten people have been killed in a bus accident at one of Tehran’s largest universities, Iran’s conservative news agency Tasnim reported Wednesday.
The bus was carrying 30 students along a mountainous road within the science research campus of Islamic Azad University in northwestern Tehran when it came off the road and hit a concrete column on Tuesday.

5 militants killed in Afghan airstrikes

Five armed militants were killed after Afghan Special Operations Forces launched airstrikes in two eastern Afghan provinces, the command of special forces said Wednesday.
In one strike, three prominent Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Tuesday following an airstrike in Pachir .
