Body of violated female victim recovered from pond in Barisal

Dead body of an unidentified female recovered from a pond at Satmail area in front of Barisal Cadet College under Barisal Airport police station on Saturday.Sub Inspector Saidul Islam after recovering the dead body said the victim may be 35-year old and seeing torture and injury signs police assumed that the victim was killed after violated. Shadeduzzaman, Barisal Airport Police Station officer in charge, said the dead body sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College morgue for autopsy and identification on Saturday noon.
Steps to save Sundarbans demanded
Nature and environment activists forming a human chain in Barisal demanded immediate ban against plying mechanised water transportation surrounding Sundarban and permanent steps to save this heritage-spot from all kinds of pollutions on Friday.They also demanded immediate cleaning of oil-splits from the capsised oil-tanker and cancellation of environment polluting activities and projects like establishing coal-fire based power plant, unplanned tourism, collection of forest wealth and hunting etc. The programme styled as ‘existence of Sundarban never could be endangered’ was organised by ‘Biggyan Andolon Mancho’ Barisal district unit in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city. It was presided over by Reazul Huq Sumon, president of the BAM and participated by nature and environment activists. It was addressed among others by Faisal Ahmed Rana, Apurbo Ahom from BAM, Moslem Shikdar from Bangladesh Trade Union Kendra, and Dr. Manisha Chakroborty from Samajtantrik Chhatra Front. All have to realise that safe and expanding existences of Sundarban needed to control carbon emissions. It’s the people of Sundarban who are paying the price for no reason to the money mongers who using this heritage for collecting wealth by extracting its properties in the name of cutting woods, hunting, collecting honey, unplanned tourism, motorised water navigation, preparation for establishing coal-fired power plant, the speakers said.
