Spain finds 11 dead migrants

Spain’s Maritime Rescue Service says it found 11 dead migrants in a boat off the country’s southern coast and rescued 33 other passengers.
All the migrants – the survivors were 29 men and four women – were from sub-Saharan Africa, a spokeswoman with the service told The Associated Press.
US OKs $3.5 b Patriot missile sale to Turkey

The United States said on Wednesday it approved the sale of $3.5 billion in missiles to Turkey, offering an ultimatum after US outrage over the NATO ally’s plans to buy from Russia.
The State Department said it had informed Congress of plans to sell Turkey a Patriot package that includes 80 Patriot missiles, and 60 PAC-3 missile interceptors and related equipment.
Nevada becomes first US state with majority of women lawmakers

Nevada has become the first U.S. state with a female-majority legislature after two Las Vegas women were appointed to fill vacancies in the Assembly, another milestone in a year women won a record number of seats in the U.S. Congress.
While women have held majorities in individual legislative chambers in other states, the appointment late Tuesday of Democrats Beatrice Duran and Rochelle Nguyen to the state Assembly gave Nevada a female majority across the legislature.
German reporter stripped of CNN awards over fraud

A German journalist who was found to have fabricated numerous articles is being stripped of two awards he received in 2014 from CNN International, the broadcaster said Thursday.
In a statement to The Associated Press, CNN International said the independent panel of judges who awarded Claas Relotius the Journalist of the Year and Print Journalist of the Year awards four years ago decided unanimously to remove them following revelations about his fraud.
