Faridpur clinches trophy in Shams-ul- Huda Gold Cup

Faridpur district football team clinched the trophy of Jessore Shams-ul-Huda Gold Cup football tournament held at Jessore Shams-ul- Huda stadium on Friday afternoon. Defeating Chaudanga district team by a lonely goal Faridpur clinched the title. Right back Saiful kicked the goal for Faridpur at 88th minute. Faridpur had to play without Ima as the referee showed him the red card at 75 minute. Playing 10 players Faridpur wrote the fortune of clinching the trophy. Lawmaker for Jessore-3 handed over the championship trophy to Faridpur team as the chief guest in presence of Dr Humayun Kabir, deputy commissioner, Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police, Jessore and other officials.

In this situation, non-government organisation ASSEDO has been implementing a self- employment project titled ‘Nadi-O-Jibon-2.’ Even after this, we have something to do for them. I could not understand the condition of the hard to reach people of the char areas if I did not see this in my own eyes. We will draw the attention of the honorable prime minister and education, health and forest departments. Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Mohammad Jahangeer Kobir said this on Saturday noon while he was speaking as chief guest in a function arranged at Narayanpur under Sadar upazila for distributing domestic animals and wheat seeds. He said the law maker would be requested to take initiative for solar electricity for solving the electricity problems. ASSEDO arranged the distribution programme at the conference room of Narayanpur UP under its ‘Nadi-O-Jibon-2’ project with the association of Concern World Wide and Irish Aid. The function was held with the chairman of the UP Adv Alamgir Kabir in the chair and was addressed by Executive Director of ASSEDO Agriculturist Rabiul Alam, Project Coordinator of Concern World Wide Rubel Talukdar and Shahjahan Ali of Local Char Alliance.
Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar inaugurated

The Central Shaheed Minar, reconstructed with an impressive design, was inaugurated in the city’s Chouhatta on Wednesday. Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the Shaheed Minar. Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali and Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor were present. The Central Shaheed Minar has been rebuilt on 36 decimals of land involving Taka 3 crore, as the previous Shaheed Minar was severely damaged in an attack from a procession of Hefazat-e-Islam activists on February 22, 2013. The attackers vandalised the fences and sculptures of the installation during the rampage. Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) later took the initiative for reconstructing it. Finance Minister A M A Muhith laid the foundation stone of the new structure on September 7 last.
Three held with yaba tablets in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives arrested three drug peddlers along with 610 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from two places of the district on Friday. The arrested were identified as Md Ashraf Mia, 32, Md Chunnu Khan, 22, and Manjurul Hassan Jhantu, 35. On a tip-off, a team of the RAB-8 led by Company Commander Major Mojammel Hossain and ASP Aminur Rahman conducted a drive in Kaichal village under Nagarkanda upazila and nabbed Ashraf and Chunnu with 510 pieces of yaba tablets while they were waiting for selling the contraband drugs. In separate drives, the RAB members also arrested Manjurul from a railway slum near Guha Lakhsmipur area of the town and recovered 100 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession, reports BSS.
