National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh arranged a colourfull rally, discussion on free heart camp marking the heart campaign in Kishoreganj on Friday. A discussion on heart disease in Bangladesh was held at Ideal School campus on Friday noon. Civil Surgeon Dr. Habibur Rahman was attended as Chief Guest. It was addressed among others by Prof Dr. Farook Ahamed, Prof Dr Mohiuddin Ahamed, Prof Dr Shohel Reja Chowdhury, Dr Badiuzzaman, Dr Mohafuzur Rahman and Golam Farook Master. At least 400 persons have received treatment at free cost from the camp..
Dialogue on child-friendly city held

Rangpur City Corporation has organised a citizen dialogue on ‘Child-friendly city and Us’ to mark its new development partnership with UNICEF Bangladesh on Thursday. It was held at Parjatan Corporation Auditorium in Rangpur where government representatives from Rangpur Division, Rangpur City Corporation, city councilors, citizen groups, NGOs, teachers, students and under-privileged working children participated. Abu Saleh Md Musa, Secretary , Rangpur City Corporation welcomed all participants to the dialogue. CEO of Rangpur City Corporation Aktar Hossain Azad presided over the dialogue. As special guest, Najibullah Hameem, Chief of UNICEF Rangpur and Rajshahi Division urged all to work for building child-friendly city and system of local governance committed to improving the lives of children within their jurisdiction by realising their rights as articulated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child.
While the primary responsibility for ensuring that children’s rights are realized lies with governments, other stakeholders such as civil society organizations, the private sector, academia and the media, as well as children themselves, also have an important role to play in building child-friendly cities, said Najibullah Hameem and Md. Zakir Hossain, Director of Local Government as Special Guests. When two working children Ataur and Shampa Rani shared their painstaking stories of child labour to survive their lives and urged for support in getting them back to school, the audience was touched by emptiness. As Chief Guest, City Mayor Md Mostafizar Rahman committed support for the children in distress and build playground for the children in Rangpur. Recently UNICEF has partnered with Rangpur City Corporation to work for improving situations for children focusing primarily on health; nutrition; education; child safety and protection; access to safe water and hygiene and empowerment of adolescents as agents of change. Rangpur Division Director of health Amal Chandra Saha, Director of Social Services Mehtab Khanam, UNICEF Urban Specialist Shamima Siddiqi and UNICEF Child Protection Officer Jesmin Hossain spoke in the event.
