China launches 5 satellites into orbit on single rocket

China launched a new space environment research satellite and four nanosatellites on a single rocket today. The satellites were carried by the Long March-2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre at 7.40 am, news agency Xinhua reported. The satellites have successfully entered their preset orbit, according to the center. Shiyan-6 will be used for conducting space environment exploration experiments.

4 militants, para army commando killed in Kashmir

Four militants and a para army commando were killed and two troopers wounded Tuesday in a fierce gunfight between them in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said. The gunfight broke out early morning at village Nadigam of Shopian district, about 54 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Five shot dead in Denver

A shooting on a downtown Denver street corner on Monday left one person dead and four hospitalized with bullet wounds, as investigators sought at least one suspect still at large, a police spokesman said.
The survivors were initially reported to be in critical condition, but police later said in a message on Twitter that the injuries were “believed to be non-life threatening.”

3 arrested in alleged terror plot in Melbourne

Three men were arrested early Tuesday for allegedly plotting terror attacks in Melbourne less than two weeks after a terror-related stabbing rampage left two dead in Australia’s second largest city, police said.
The trio, all Australian nationals of Turkish descent, were nabbed in overnight raids as they escalated preparations to attack crowded areas of Melbourne, according to police.

US may list Venezuela as sponsor of int’l

The Trump administration is preparing to add Venezuela to the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism in what would be a dramatic escalation against the socialist government of Nicolas Maduro, according to U.S. officials and internal government emails.
The list is reserved for governments accused of repeatedly providing “support for acts of international terrorism” and includes only Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria.

Gunman kills three at Chicago hospital

An argument in a hospital parking lot escalated into a shooting that killed three people, including a police officer, in the US city of Chicago on Monday.
The violence only ended when police engaged in shootout with the gunman inside Mercy Hospital.
“We have four deceased individuals: police officer, two female staff employees at the hospital, and the offender,” police Superintendent Eddie Johnson told journalists.
