US-led coalition strikes kill 14
in Syria

At least 14 civilians were killed Saturday in US-led coalition air strikes on the ISIS’ last holdout in eastern Syria, a monitor said.
“Fourteen civilians, including five children under the age of 18, were killed in the coalition air raids on the villages of Hajin, Sousa and Al-Shaafa” in eastern Deir Ezzor province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

2 dead in Baltimore building collapse

At least two people died in the partial collapse of an Amazon.com Inc distribution warehouse in Baltimore caused by severe weather, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and the company said on Saturday. “My condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims,” Hogan said in a post on Twitter.
The incident occurred late Friday as severe winds and heavy rain swept into Maryland’s largest city, according to Hogan and a statement by an Amazon executive.

Four among 3 girl scouts in Wisconsin crash

Three girls scouts and a woman were killed in Wisconsin on Saturday when a pickup truck veered off a road and hit them while they were picking up litter, police said.
Another girl scout was critically injured when the black Ford F-150 pickup veered off the road and hit them on a two-lane county road near Lake Hallie, about 90 miles (145 km) east of Minneapolis, police said in a statement.

Bahrain oppn leader sentenced to life

A Shiite cleric who was a central figure in Bahrain’s 2011 Arab Spring protests was sentenced to life in prison Sunday on spying charges.
The ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeals came after Sheikh Ali Salman was acquitted of the charges by a lower court in June. Human rights groups and activists say the charges against him are politically-motivated and related to his work as a leading opposition figure.
