Schoolgirl electrocuted in Rajshahi

A class-four female student of a local school was killed after being electrocuted in Gangarampur village of Bagha Upazila on Friday morning. The deceased was identified as Rasheda Khatun, 10, daughter of Abdur Rashid of the village. Rasheda came in touch with a live electric wire while feeding chickens at their poultry farm in the village around 11 am, leaving her unconscious. Later, she was taken to Bagha Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared her dead, said Adbulla-Hil-Baki, a physician of the health complex.
Police detains two drug addicts at RU

The on-duty police team of Rajshahi University (RU) has arrested two alleged drug addicts from the university’s Shaheed Habibur Rahman playground on early Thursday. They are identified as Abu Sama, a RU student and Raihan, student of Varendra University. According to the Kazla police outpost of the university, police detained Abu Sama and Raihan from the area while they were taking drugs. They were taken to the police outpost and later, they have been released in a bond in presence of their parents. RU proctor professor Lutfar Rahman was present at that time.
National Road Safety Day observed in Gafargoan

The National Safety Road Day was observed at Gafargaon recently. We want safety road, a human chain on Safety road day has been observed for one hour led by Gafargaon Upazila Unit . Later a colourful rally was ended at Gafargaon Upazila central memorial. A discussion meeting was held on the occasion. People from all walks of life have been participated in the meeting. Among others, journalist s Rubel Mahmud, Azharul Haque, Arshad Ahmed Asada and Dr. S.M. Shafik Ahmed spoke on the occasion.
Tractor kills minor schoolboy

A speedy and reckless tractor ran over a school boy killing him on the spot at Kharkhadia village in Faridganj Upazila at 10 am recently. The deceased boy was identified as Saifur Rahman alias Asif ,12, a student of class VII at the local Chandra Imam Ali High School and youngest son of Mobarak Hossain alias Mantu Dhali- a resident of Kharkhadia village in Balithuba Union of the Upazila. Witnesses said, Asif was driving his bi-cycle when the speedy and reckless tractor hit him from behind and ran over him killing him on the spot at Kharkhadia village. Locals became angry soon after the accident and the mob intercepted the tractor but the clever driver managed to flee the scene in the midst of hue and cry. Police Sub Inspector Jakaria said, ‘We took the body from the spot and now sending it to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for post mortem’. Police seized the tractor and a case was filed in this connection.
5 held with sharp weapons in Sylhet

Police arrested five young men along with five sharp weapons from Laladighirpar in the city on Thursday. The arrestees were identified as Mainul Islam Rana, 24, son of Fakhrul Mia, Manir Hossain, 18, son of Mustafa Hazi, Solaiman Ahmed, 19, son of Chunnu Mia, Imran Ahmed, 18, son of Helal Mia and Sultan Ahmed, 22 of the area. Nure Alam, sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station, said police arrested them as they were roaming in the area brandishing the weapons.
