The Detective Branch(DB) of police arrested three suspected robbers from Rabna Bypass area of Dhaka-Tangail- Bangabandhu Bridge Highway on Sunday night. The arrestees were identified as Sagar Sheikh, son of late Juran Ali Sheikh of Gohaliabari village, Jabbar Mia, son of Tula Mia and Rafiq Fakir, son of Shahjahan Fakir, of Mahela village in Kalihati upazila of the district. Acting on tip-off, a team of DB conducted a drive in the area on Sunday night around 11 am and held the trio while they were preparing for a robbery, said Sazzad Hossain, officer-in-charge of DB of Tangail north zone. Police seized a pickup van, two machetes, one cutter, an iron rod, two rods and three phones from their possessions.
Twenty shops gutted at Rangpur New Market
RANGPUR: Some 20 business shops with huge properties were gutted by a devastating fire at Rangpur New Market in the city tonight, police and fire service personnel said. Assistant Deputy Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Shasuzzoha said the fire erupted from an electric short circuit in a shop and engulfed the adjoining shops gutting huge properties. “Being informed, ten units of Fire Service and Civil Defense from four stations and police from Rangpur Kotwali Metropolitan Thana rushed to the spot and distinguished the fire in one hour,” he said. High officials of the district and Rangpur Metropolitan Police administrations and local public representatives visited the spot and talked to the victim traders. Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Kotwali Metropolitan Thana Reazul Karim said the process of assessment of damages of properties already started, reports BSS.
10 jailed for drug peddling, abuse in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested 12 alleged drug addicts and drug peddlers in this region while 10 of them were sentenced to different jail terms by mobile courts. On tips-off, the elite force conducted drives in different areas of Rajshahi and Natore districts on Tuesday and arrested the people for their alleged involvement in drug trading or taking drugs. RAB officials said they also seized 2,595 pieces of Yaba tablets, 285 bottles of Phensidyl, 105 grams of ganja, a private car and some other drugs- taking instruments from their possession. Later, the arrested were produced before five separate mobile courts. After examining the evidences, the mobile courts sentenced 10 of them to various jail terms. Regular cases were filed against two other detainees. Saiful Islam, assistant superintendent of police working with RAB, said different courts sent more than 15 drug addicts to jail during the last couple of days, reports BSS.
