Man gets 10- yr jail in Kishoreganj

A court here on Wednesday sentenced one person to 10 years imprisonment for arms trading under Sadar Upazila on October 3. The person is Fazla Mia @ Fazlu Dakat, son of late Abdul Karim of village Gouripur under Katiadi Upazila of the district. Additional District & Session Judge 1st Court A.G.M Al Masud handed down the verdict. As per the prosecution, the convicts are trading arms Kaliarkanda village in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila on November 5, 2015. The case was conducted by Assistant Public Prosecutor Abu Sayeed Imam on behalf of the state and Advocate Ashraf Uddin Renu for accused.
Hilsha bans from Oct 07
GAIBANDHA: Like other 36 districts of the country Hilsha catching, selling, transporting, hoarding and marketing will be prohibited in the district to protect mother Hilsha for ensuring safe breeding. District fisheries officer (DFO) Abdud Dayan said the government imposed 22-day ban in this regard will effect from October 07 to October 28. The government is implementing the “Hilsa Protection Campaign-2018” as the objective of the restriction to save mother hilsa during the peak breeding period. A mother Hilsha give birth up to 50 lakh hilsa fry, he said. In the fiscal year 2008-2009, hilsa production was 2.98 tonnes while it stood to 4.96 tonnes during the fiscal year 2016-2017, he commented. To create much awareness among the fishermen, the fish traders, and the consumers a motivational meeting organized by district administration and the department of fisheries was held at the conference room of District Collectorate Building here on Monday. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the meeting as the chief guest and said the government has implemented various coordinated programmes for increasing Hilsha fish production. If anyone catches, sells, transports and hoards the Hilsha fish violating the recently imposed restriction the offenders will be will jailed for one or two years and fined highest Tk. 5,000, the DC added, reports BSS.
6 hurt in gas cylinder blast in Pabna
PABNA: Six people sustained injured in a gas cylinder explosion at the National Development Fair premises in front of Ishwardi Upazila Parishad office on Thursday. The victims were identified as Bappi, 35, a balloon vendor and son of Shukkur Ali of Gobinda area in Sadar upazila, Tushar Hossain, 10, son of Bhodon, Alim Hossain, 13, son of Abu Syed, Sohan Hossain, 10, son of Nasim Uddin Khoka, Farhad hossain, 12, son of Faruk Hossain and Rabbi, 11, son of Rustom Ali of Ishwardi uapzila headquarters. Zobair Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said the gas cylinder of a balloon vendor went off with a big bang, 60 meter away from the main stage, leaving four students and the vendor injured. Later, they were taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex from where five of them were sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he added, reports UNB.
12 pirates held with arms in Bhola
BHOLA: Local fishermen caught 12 pirates with some indigenous arms from Meghna River in Monpura Island of the district on Tuesday night. Fishermen Liton Mazi, Rased Mazi and Hemuz Mazi said pirates with two trawlers attacked them while they were netting fish in the river area around 9:30 pm. Following the attack, they started shouting for help from pirate attack. Sensing this matter, nearby at least 15 trawlers of the fishermen came forward and caught the pirates from one trawler, they added. On information, members of coastguard and police arrested them and brought them to Monpura Police Station, said Abdul Aziz, commander of Monpura Coastguard Station. The arrestees were identified as Md Hatem, 48, Monirul Islam, 35, Shadat, 38, Mosleahuddin, 45, Chadek, 49, Nuruddin, 40, Abul Hossain, 45, Mofizul Islam, 46, Rafiqul Islam, 77, Ismail, 42, Nur Islam, 45, and Rahim, 19, residents of different upazilas of Laxmipur district. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the commander added, reports UNB.
