One held with 5 gold bars in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh personnel on Friday morning held a youth along with 5 gold bars weighing 500 grams worth Tk 21,50,000 raiding Baropota Bazar under Benapole port police station. The arrested is Shafiqul Islam, 27, of Putkhali frontier under Benapole port police station. Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Hoque, commanding officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion told Newsmen that tipped off the BGB men led by Habilder Abdul Matin of Raghunathpur BGB camp detained the youth along with the gold bars while he was going to India without any valid document at around 9:15am on Friday. The arrested was handed over to Benapole port station along with the gold bars police after filing a case.
12 shops gutted at Baura Bazar in Lalmonirhat
RANGPUR: Twelve business shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Baura Bazar in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat district on Saturday morning, police said. Station Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Montazur Rahman said the fire erupted from a shop in the Bazar following electric short circuit at 7:30 am and engulfed 11 other adjoining shops. “Being informed, Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel from Patgram and Hatibandha Stations and police forces from Patgram Thana rushed to the spot and doused the blaze in an hour with the assistance of local people,” he said. Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Abdul Karim, Officer-in-Charge of Patgram Thana Arzoo Mohammad Sajjad and other officials and local public representatives visited the spot and talked to the traders of Baura Bazar, whose shops were gutted. Talking to local reporters, the UNO said that the process of assessing damages of properties has already started and steps would be taken to assist the victim traders so that they could restart their businesses as soon as possible, reports BSS.
Properties worth Tk 20 lakh gutted in Morrelganj

Properties worth Tk 20 lakh were completely gutted when a big fire took place in the house of Najrul Islam Shaikh, son of one late Abdul Majid Shaikh of village Uttar Badurtala within Sadar Union Parishad under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat district on Wednesday night. It is learnt from the locals that at the night at about 8 pm the dwelling caught fire when an old gas cylinder blasted out and within moments it (fire) went out of control. On seeing the flame of fire some neighbouring people and villagers rushed to the spot and tried their best to extinguish the fire, but in vain. Being informed of the matter a fire service unit of Morrelganj Upazila headquarters tried to reach the spot. But for want of road it returned back to Morrelganj. As a result, the dwelling house with its all belongings including cash Tk.2 lakh, 4 Tolas gold ornaments, valuable papers and documents, academic certificates, National ID cards etc. were completely burnt to ashes excepting one copy the holy Quran. In the following morning local UP Chairman H M Mahmud Ali and UP members visited the place of occurrence and consoled the owner of the gutted house and the members of his family.
