RANGPUR: Literary and cultural personalities at a discussion here have called for further enriching and nurturing Bengali literature and culture to eliminate social curses like drug abuse, militancy and terrorism recently. They made the call at the discussion arranged by ‘Mouchak Family’ at Town Hall auditorium on Saturday night to celebrate the fourth founding anniversary of the quarterly literary newspaper ‘Mouchak’. The ‘Mouchak’ is being published and edited by poet Rezaul Karim Jiban from Rangpur city since 2014. On the occasion, the organisers published the ninth edition of the paper, awarded literary personalities, arranged discussion and functions for recitation of poems, rendering songs and dance, staging of drama and colourful cultural evening. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Sharif Mohammad Foyzul Alam attended the functions and unveiled cover of the ninth edition as the chief guest. With chief adviser of the ‘Mouchak’ Rezaul Karim Mukul in the chair, drama artiste Biplob Prasad, general secretary of Rangapur Sahitya Parishat Akbar Hossain, former general secretary of Rangpur District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Rangpur Metropolitan Chamber President Rezaul Islam Milan addressed the discussion as special guests. Publisher and Editor of the ‘Mouchak’ Rezaul Karim Jiban delivered the welcome speech in the discussion jointly moderated by Sharif Suman and Shahina Sultana, reports BSS.
Indigenous girl attempted to rape in Rajshahi

An indigenous schoolgirl was attempted to rape by a man at Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi district. The convict Kazem Uddin, 38, son of late Jeher Ali, a resident of Belna village of the upazila, attempted to rape the three-grader while she was returning to home alone from her school on Tuesday morning. Local sources said that hearing her screaming, they rushed in and saved the girl from the spot. Later, they caught Kazem red handed. Officer in charge of Mohanpur police station Abul Hossain said, no one lodged any complaint in this incident. We will take a legal action after getting the complaint from victim or her family, OC also added.
Student held for rape attempt, one arrested

Jasim Hawladar (19) was arrested by police on the charges of attempting rape of 9th class student in Sharankhola of Bagerhat on Monday. The incident happened on Monday night at Bakultala village of Southkhali union of the upazila. A case has been filed in Sharankhola police station on Tuesday night under the Women and Children Repression Act. Locals said at1.55 am on Monday , the resident students of Bakultala village of the upazila came out of the clutter and tried to rape her by Jasim Hawlader, son of Idris Ali Howlader, from the nearby South Village area.
