Journalists protested Digital Security Act

Journalists in Jashore protested the government’s decision to enact controversial digital security act recently . They formed a human chain in front of Jashore Press Club protesting at the government’s step to enact the law. Shahid Joy, president, Jashore Union of Journalists, Noor Islam, former president, Tauhid Zaman, former secretary spoke during the human chain. They called upon the president not to pass the controversial law.
Procession to save Bhairab River held
A boat procession was held in the Bhairab river on Friday to create awareness in saving the river from pollution and grabbing. Make Clean and Safe Noapara Association organized the boat procession to create awareness among people living on the river banks in Abhaynagar upazila on Friday. The journey had begun from Noapara point and roamed around three kilometers riverine areas. Everyone needs to think how to save the biodiversity of the river and the riverine areas, speakers said on the occasion, adding that all the environmental organisations have to come forward to take necessary measures as well as to save the water body’s ecosystem. Among others, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi in Noapara President Sunil Kumar Das, General Secretary and Executive Director Prof Sukumar Ghosh, Diseases of the Chest Clinic Consultant Dr Atahar Hossain, Noapara Highway Police officer-in-charge Md Atarur Rahman, Project Implement Officer Md Rizibul Islam, BIWT Assistant Director Masud Parvez and Noapara Municipality Councilor Shirin Akhter spoke on the occasion.
Poor people in Jamalpur get low price rice
JAMALPUR: Food Department has launched programme to sell low priced rice among poor people in the district. District Food Controller office sources said, under the programme a total of 1,45,182 poor people in the district will get rice at Tk. 10 per kilogram. The office said 32,263 poor people in Jamalpur sadar upazila, 19,049people in Sarishabari, 19,209 people in Dewanganj, 23,025 people in Islampur, 21,286 people in Melandaha, 17,011 people in Madarganj and 13,339 people in Bakshiganj upazilas will get low priced rice under the programme. District Food Controller, Md Mahbubur Rahman Khan said the programme will continue from September to October this year and total 4,355.460 tonnes of rice will be required in every month, reports BSS.
‘Drug trader’ held with 477 bottles of Phensidyl

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a suspected drug trader from Boroteghoria Bridge area in Gomostapur upazila early on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Laltu, 28, son of MalekKashturofTinbariarea under Radhanagar union. According to a RAB press release, on information, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in the Northern side of Boroteghoria Bridge around 12:45 and arrested Laltu along with 477 bottles of Phensidyl syrup worth of Tk 3.33 lakh, reports UNB.
Indian held over intrusion charge
HABIGANJ: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an Indian national for entering the country illegally fromJaloabadarea in Madhabpur upazila on Wednesday. The arrestee was identified as Dilip Sarkar, 25, a resident of Agartala in Bishalgarh district of India. Tipped off, a team of BGB conducted a drive in the area and arrested Dilip while entering the country without valid documents, said Chandan Kumar Chakravarty, officer-in-charge of Madhabpur police Station. The BGB team also recovered his nationality card, Indian currency, Tk 3,500 and a driving license from his possession. Later, he was handed over to police, reports UNB.
