Students of Barisal Health Technology Institute formed human chain

Students of Barisal Health Technology Institute on Saturday formed human chain and held demonstration in the campus area to press home their ten-point demands. The programme was held in front of the main gate of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital. They also handed over a memorandum to the principal of the institute. It was addressed among others by Shoyeb Hossain, Nirjhar Mandal, Swapan Kumar Pal, Sanjib Majumdar, Miltan Gyin, Shekhar Mandal, leaders of Bangladesh Diploma Medical Technology and Pharmacy Students Association. Their 10-point demands included formation of diploma medical education board, creating posts as per directions of World Health Organisation in public health service providing institutes, giving second-class gezetted status to diploma holder technologists and pharmacists, introducing degree and masters courses for them giving first-class gezetted status in public service, creating new directorates for the medical technologists and pharmacists, giving promotions in service by creating carrier panel, registration for private practices for dental and physiotherapy diploma holders, compulsory appointments of technologists and pharmacists at all private and non-government health service providing organs under specified rules and regulations.
Drug peddler arrested in Faridpur, phensidyl recovered
FARIDPUR: Elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-8 members last night recovered phensidyl, a motor bike, cash and cell phone from a drug peddler in the town last night. According to the RAB sources, acting on a tip off a group of RAB members led by ASP Md. Aminur Rahman carried on a raid in the North Alipur area of the town. The RAB team found one youth standing with a red colored motor bike and a bag. They challenged the youth identified as Mithun Malo, 24 son of late Banu Malo hailing from Chandipur under Kotwali police station. The RAB team recovered fifty bottles of phensidyl, cash of Taka 19,500 sale proceeds of the drug and a cell phone with two SIM cards from his possession, reports BSS.

Police arrested the district president of Jatiyatabadi Tarun Projonmo Dal from Ambarkhana area in the city on Wednesday night. The arrestee was identified as Layek Ahmed, president of the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Tarun Projonmo Dal and son of Nazmul Haque, a resident of Purba Shaplabagh of the city. Shafiq, sub-inspector (SI) of Airport Police Station, said police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Layek at about 10:30.
Youth held with hemp in C’nawabganj

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a young man along with 2.24 kg hemp from Sundarpur Noyaladanga area in Shibganj upazila on Friday morning. The arrestee was identified as Liton Ali, 22, a resident of the area. The team of RAB-5 on patrol conducted the drive in the area around 9.00am and arrested Liton in possession of 2.24 kg hemp. Abdus Sattar, another accused in the incident, managed to flee the scene.
Abducted youth found dead in Pabna
PABNA: Police recovered the body of a young man, who had remained traceless for 10 days after his alleged abduction from the house, from a field at Kukragari Natunpara graveyard in Chatmohor upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Abul Based,38, son of Abdus Sattar, a resident of Baraipara village in Atghoria upazila. Subrata Kumar Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Chatmohor Police Station, said local people spotted the body of Based lying in the field at about 9:00 am and informed police, reports UNB.
