15th founding anniv of KUET celebrated

The 15th founding anniversary of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) was celebrated here amid festivity on Saturday in the University campus.
Marking the day, the University administrstion arranged colorful rally, procession, exibition of diffeent projects and posters invented by the students of the University, technical paper presentation, discussion meeting, tree plantation, opening labs of different departments for the visitors, friendly football match between teachers and students, Doa Mahfil and cultural functions. Prof. Dr. Kazi Sazzad Hossain, Vice Chancellor of KUET chaired the function while Prof. Dr. M. Shah Nawas Ali, member of Bangladesh University Grant Commission (UGC) was present as chief guest. Mentionable here that the anniversary day of KUET is observed on 1st September every year after its opening in 2003, but due to Eid Ul Azha vacation, the day was observed this year on September 22. KUET is situated at Phulbarigate area upon 101 acres of lands. This University is comprised with Library building, modern laboratory & compuer center, residential halls for the students, cafeteria, playground, pond, medical center and mosque. Around 5500 students are studying here in three faculties and 20 departments. Besides, more than 300 teachers, more than 100 officials and around 300 staffs have been serving here. At present, Honors and Masters courses are available in KUET including departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering,Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Urban & Regional planning,Building Engineering & Construction Management, Bio-medical Engineering, Architecture, Materials Science & Engineering, Energy Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering. Besides three Institutes are also available in this university.
BTA conference held in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI: The triennial conference of Bangladesh Teacher’s Association (BTA), Narsingdi district unit was held at Narsingdi Pourasabha auditorium on Friday. State Minister for Water Resources Lt. Col. (retd) Nazrul Islam Hiro (Birpratik) MP addressed the conference as chief guest. President of the of Bangladesh Teacher’s Association, Narsingdi unit Azizur Rahman Bulu presided over the conference. Babu Ranjit Kumer Saha, senior vice president of Bangladesh Teacher’sAssociation, inaugurated the conference, reports BSS.
Indian goods seized at Benapole
BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 47,200 pieces of Indian medicine and 110 pieces of cotton sari from South Barpota area of Putkhali bordering point on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team conducted a drive and recovered the contraband items from the area in the morning, said Imran Ullah, BGB-21 battalion director. However, no one was arrested in this connection. The price of the seized goods is worth Tk 15, 41,000, the official added, reports UNB.
