A press briefing was held on the inauguration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (U-17) National Gold Cup Football Tournament in district level on Thursday. It was organised by District Sports Association and Ministry of Youth and Sports. Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Tarafdar Md. Akhter Jamil, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Masud, Kishoreganj Municipality Mayor Md. Parvez Miah, Additional Superintendent of Police Shafiqul Islam, District Sports Officer Al Amin Sabuj spoke at the press conference. From September 15 to 19 , 13 Upazila teams of the district will participate.
Youth gets life for raping challenged girl
RAJSHAHI: A youth was sentenced to life-term imprisonment for raping a challenged minor girl in Natore 10 years back. The convict was identified as Alal Uddin, 28, son of late Saidullah of Jangli Mondalpara area under Natore Sadar upazila. Judge of Tribunal against Women and Children Repression Mainul Haque handed down the verdict and also fined him Taka 50,000. The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused Alal raped his neighbour physically challenged girl on September 2, 2008. Father of the victim lodged a case with Sadar Police Station on the same day. Upon completion of investigation police pressed charges accusing Alal Uddin, reports BSS.

Police arrested general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal(JCD) district unit and its another activist from PurboTulshidanga area in Kolaroa pouro area on Friday night on sabotage charge. The JCD leader is Mamtazul Islam Chandan. Maruf Ahmmed, officer-in-charge of Kolaroa Police Station, said a team of police conducted a drive in the area while Chandan along with some other party men were planning to carry out sabotage around 11:30am. Sensing the presence of police, some JCD men fled away. A sabotage case was filed.
One gets life term in rape case in Manikganj

A special court here on Thursday convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for violating a woman in 2010. The convict was identified as Nanda Gopal Sarkar, son of Nihar Chandra Pal of Shibalaya upazila. The court also fined him Tk one lakh. According to the prosecution, the convict raped the woman in Ghior upazila on April 7, 2010. The victim filed the case with Ghior Police Station the following the day. Police submitted the chargesheet against Gopal on June 7, 2010. After examining records and witnesses, Manikganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Ali Hossain handed down the verdict.
6 female activists of Jamaat held in Bogura

In a drive, police arrested six female activists of Jamaat-e-Islami from Katnarpara in the district town on Thursday. The arrestees were identified as Zobaida Begum, Ramena Begum, Kulsum Begum, Ruma Begum, Helena Begum and Khodeza Begum. Tipped off, a team of police raided the house and arrested them while holding a clandestine meeting, said Kamruzzaman, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station. A case was filed in this connection.
