Relatives vandalise clinic in Meherpur over patient’s death
MEHERPUR: Angry relatives of a patient went on rampage and vandalised a private clinic in Sadar upazila following the death of a man due to alleged wrong treatment. The victim, Abdul Khalek, 45, of Govipur village in sadar upazila admitted to Taher Clinic in the district town as one of his veins was severed accidentally while cutting bamboos on Wednesday. Upon arrival, Dr Abu Taher, owner of the clinic, took him to the operation theatre for a surgery, but the victim succumbed to his injuries on the operation table. When the news spread, the relatives of the patient gathered in front of the clinic in the evening and vandalised several rooms of the clinics. On information, police rushed there and brought the situation under control, said Rabiul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, reports UNB.
Two women jailed for possessing drugs in B’baria
BRAHMANBARIA: A mobile court here on Tuesday convicted two women and sentenced them to different terms of imprisonment for possessing drugs in Akhaura upazila.
Akhaura upazila executive magistrate Mohammad Shamsuzzaman in association with Border Guard Bangladesh conducted a drive in Azampur Rail Station area and rrestedFatemBegum, 30, wife of Sohel Mia and Sarbanu, 45, wife of Sajon Mia of Kasba upazila along with four kilograms of hemp in the early hours of Tuesday. Later, the mobile court sentenced Fatema to six months jail and fined Tk 5,000, in default to suffer 15 days more in jail. The court also sentenced Sarbanu to one-year imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000, in default to suffer two months more jail, reports UNB.

CHANDPUR: Police arrested a man along with a pistol form Nayergaon Bazar area in Matlab South upazila on Wednesday. The arrestee was identified as Roni Sarder, 27, son of Ruhul Amin of Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla. Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at a house around 8 pm and arrested Roni along with the arms. A case was filed under Arms Act, reports UNB.
Workshop on online power connection held in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) organised a workshop on Online Power Connection System evolved by its own experts at Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS-2) at its Paglapeer headquarters here on Saturday. The daylong workshop was arranged with a view to providing new power connections to the clients of BREB through digitised online services quickly in a completely hassle-free manner. General mangers, deputy general mangers (technical), assistant general managers and junior engineers (IT) of all PBSs under Rangpur zone, entrepreneurs of union digital centres, BREB clients, civil society members and journalists participated in the workshop. Member (planning and development) of BREB Md Abdus Salam attended the workshop as the chief guest with its general manager of Rangpur PBS-2 Engineer Md Ali Hossain in the chair. Director (technical) of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Directorate of BREB Md Golam Mostafa, its Director (Technical) of the ICT Directorate Hedayetul Islam, Superintending Engineer (Additional Charge) for Rangpur Zone Md Enamul Haque and President of the PBS-2 Board Abu Hena Md Anwarul Islam attended as special guests. The high officials elaborately discussed the online application process evolved by the IT experts of BREB for providing power connections to the clients easily in a hassle-free manner, reports BSS.
