BCC starts removal of Illegal billboards

Barisal City Corporation operated drives to remove illegal billboards from the city on Monday. The removed billboards included propagations of different political, business and socio-cultural organisations and activities. Those billboards were set up at the important public and beauty spots of the city with out taking any permission of BCC. About 100 illegal billboards already removed from Sunday night to till filling the report, said BCC chief executive officer Nikhil Chandra Das. He claimed that before the anti-billboard eviction drive BCC noticed to the concerned parties to remove those. Some of them prayed for time and BCC considered them. However the parties who failed to remove their billboards within the timeframe, BCC started removal of those from Sunday night. The billboard-eviction drive will continue, the BCC official added.

Notorious terrorist held with pistol

A police team arrested a terrorist and recovered a foreign-made pistol with two bullets, a magazine from a special drive at Katnar Para in the town at around 9.45 pm on Tuesday night. The arrestee terrorist is identified as Hiron, 20, son of Moukboul of Katnar para area. Md. Emran,21, son of Rihan ali ,village Matidali. Md. Shakil ,22, son of Naub Ali, Katnar para. of the Bogra sader upazila. ASP (A Cirle) of Bogra police Nazir Ahmed Khan said that acting on a tip-off a team of police of Sadar Police Station police conducted a special drive and a arrested the notorious terrorist, arms trader then with a 9 mm pistol, 2 bullets and a magazine from his possession on Tuesday night.

Unfit vehicles fined Tk 3 thousand in 6 cases filed

Sylhet BRTA authorities have filed at least 6 cases and fined over Tk 3 thousand against unfit vehicles and with fake license drivers in Sylhet city. The joined drive led by Bangladesh Roads and Transport Authority (BRTA) entered the second day on Tuesday. The executive magistrates of the BRTA also awarded jail to at least one drivers in the first two days. Over 10 vehicles were seized by the police during this time. The drive began on Monday to ensure the road safety.The most of the owners of the transports refrained from plying their vehicles in the Sylhet streets.

2 arms traders held with arms, ammo in Jhenidah

The rapid action battalions in Jhenidah (RAB-6) were arrested two arms traders with arms and ammunitions from Halidhani Bazar under Jhenidah sadar upazila on Tuesday noon. The arrested are identified as Arshad Ali, son of Ansar Ali of Kola village and Humayun Kabir Ripon of Udoypur village in Jhenidah sadar upazila. Jhenidah RAB camp commander squadron Leader Niaz Mohammad Faisal said, a gang of miscreants were trading arms and ammunition, having this sort of information, the RAB men had arrested the two.
Later a 9 mm foreign pistol, four rounds of ammunitions and a magzine was recovered from their possession. They are running arms and ammunition trading in the locality for long. A case has been filed with Jhenidah sadar police in this connection. The arrested were handed over to Jhenidah police, the commander added.
