Mugabe accepts disputed
election result

Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe, who had vowed not to vote for his old party in July elections, on Thursday said he accepted the outcome of the disputed poll.
Mugabe said on the eve of the ballot he hoped his successor Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU-PF party would be voted out of office, complaining they had “tormented” him when he was removed from power following a military intervention last year.

7 Afghan police officers killed

Seven police officers lost their lives as Taliban insurgents stormed some security checkpoints in Mangajek district of Afghanistan’s northern Jawzjan province on Friday, head of Provincial Council, Babir Eshci said. “A group of Taliban rebels attacked some security checkpoints in Mangajek district in the wee hours of Friday triggering gun battle which lasted for several hours and resulted in killing seven police personnel facilitating the militants to gain ground,” Eshchi told Xinhua.

China launches new marine satellite

China sent a new marine satellite into orbit Friday to help improve understanding of maritime waters and climate change. A Long March-2C rocket carrying the HY-1C satellite took off at 11:15 a.m. from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China’s Shanxi Province.
The satellite HY-1C will help monitor ocean color and water temperatures, providing basic data for research on the global oceanic environment, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

5 killed in India road accident

At least five people have been killed and 10 injured after their vehicle fell into a gorge in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said Friday. The accident occurred at Mukhed in the state’s Nanded district.
“The vehicle carrying 15 people skidded off the road and fell into the gorge after its driver lost control of the vehicle while crossing a bridge Thursday evening,” a police official said.
