3 hemp traders jailed in Kishoreganj

A mobile court of Narcotics Control Department in a anti narcotics drive led by Senior Magistrate Abu Taher Sayeed at Nansree village in Karimganj upazila recently.The mobile court also arrested Akkas Ali (65) son of Late Abdul Ali of village North Nansree, Sumsuddin (65) son of Late Jamoj Ali and Md. Siddque (50) son of late Abdul Goni both of village Kamaratia under Karimganj upazila in the district and recovered 5 kg hemps. The court gets three men two years jailed and fined taka 10 thousand each for hemp. Convicted persons were sent to District jail.

Police detained BNP UK unit Joint General Secretary Shohidul Islam Mamun from his residence in the city’s Badambagich area on Monday afternoon. Based on obvious allegation, the law enforcers arrested him from his residence, said Md Abdul Wahab, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP). The police official, however, denied disclosing the matter. Meanwhile, sources at the SMP office said the secretary might have been detained for his involvement with the attack on Bangladesh High Commission in the UK. Earlier on February 8, some leaders and activists of BNP attacked Bangladesh High Commission in the UK as its officials refused to accept a memorandum regarding Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Nat’l Newborn Health Programme launched in Rangpur
RANGPUR : Health experts at a post-rally discussion have stressed ensuring proper maternal, newborn and child health services to further reduce the neonatal death rate to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs). They expressed the view in the discussion organised by the civil surgeon’s office in the conference room of Sadar Hospital here on Wednesday afternoon to launch the ‘National Newborn Health Programme’ in the district. Sadar Upazila Health Complex, LAMB A2H Project, LAMB Hospital, Deep Eye Care Foundation, World Vision Bangladesh, Community Eye Care and Research Centre, BRAC, Light House, Family Planning Association of Bangladesh, Save the Children and other organisations extended assistance in arranging the programmes. Earlier, a rally was brought out on the city streets with participation of physicians, nurses and health care providers, civil society members, teachers, students and common people.Deputy director of the Department of Family Planning Dr Sheikh Md Shahidul Islam attended the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy civil surgeon of Rangpur Dr Kaniz Fatema in the chair. Health and Family Planning Officer of Rangpur Sadar Upazila Health Complex Dr Rabi Sankar Mandal addressed the occasion as the special guest, reports BSS.
