Drug trader gets two years jail

A mobile court of RAB- 14 led by Senior Megistrate Abu Taher Sayeed in a anti-narcotics drive at Newtown area in Kishoreganj town on Wednesday night arrested one drug trader recovered 20 yaba tablets. The court also sentenced drug trader get two years jailed for yaba and fined taka ten thousand. The convicted are Abdul Majed (48) son of Late Abdul Hamid of village West Tarapasha (Newtown) in Kishoreganj town. He was sent to Kishoreganj district jail.
5 of a family suffer burn injuries in Sylhet

Five members of a family suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a house at Rahimpur village in Biswanath upazila early Wednesday. The victims are Faruk Miah, 55, his wife Champa Begum, 45, their daughter Ripa Begum, 18, son Emad Miah, 14, Imran Miah 12. Officer-in-charge of Biswanath Police Station M Shamsuddoha said the fire originated from a burning mosquito coil in the early hours. The family members sustained burn injuries as they were sleep during the fire incident, he said. The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Police dump 30 human-haulers into Jashore pond
JASHORE: Amid the ongoing drive against three-wheeled vehicles plying highways, police have dumped around 30 three-wheelers running on Jashore-Benapole Highway into a pond near Navaran Highway Police camp. Paliton Mia, sub-inspector of the police camp, said they were conducting a special drive on Jashore-Benapole and Jashore-Satkhira highways following the government’s move to strictly control the plying of three-wheeled vehicles on the highways. He said cases were filed against 85 vehicles in the last three days for violating the government order. Of the vehicles, 30 were dumped into the pond, the police officer added, reports UNB.
96 people held in Satkhira on various charges
SATKHIRA: In a drive from Thursday night to Friday morning, police arrested 96 people from different parts of the district on various charges. They arrested 22 people from Sadar, eight each from Kalaroa and Tala upazilas, 11 from Kaliganj, 18 from Shyamnagar, 20 from Ashashuni, four from Debhata and five from Patkelghata upazilas, said Azam Khan, an inspector at the Special Branch of Satkhira Police. He said 13 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir were among the arrestees. Police also recovered 582 pieces of Yaba pill during the drive, Azam added. According to him, the arrestees are accused in cases like acts of sabotage and drug abuse, reports UNB.
Headmaster’s son beats up teacher at Ishwardi school
FARIDPUR: A teacher was allegedly beaten up by the son of the headmaster of the same school for Waz-mahfil funds in Ishwardi on Thursday afternoon. The injured teacher was identified as Faruk Hossain, an assistant-teacher of the Ishwardi Government Primary School. Faruk alleged that Dipu, son of headmaster Saleha Begum, came to the school office around 2:30pm and demanded Tk 300 for Waz-mahfil in the locality. Although he was ready to contribute Tk 100, Dipu started calling him bad names after refusing the money and then harassed him physically, Faruk added. Dipu locked into an altercation with teacher Faruk Hossain and misbehaved with him, said Saleha Begum, headmaster of the school. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Badruzzaman said he got a written allegation in this connection. Necessary measures would be taken after investigation, reports UNB.
