Thousands of people will be waterlogged at Bhabadah

Bhabadah Water Mitigation Movement Committee has urged the government to implement tidal river management (TRM) immediately to save several thousand people of Bhabadah affected area under Abhaynagar, Momirampur, Keshabpur and Jessore sadar upazila in Jessore and Phultala and Dumuria in Khulna and Tala of Satkhira districts. The committee on Monday noon handed over a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, Jessore in support of its demand. The memorandum reads 10 lakh people of 200 villages will be directly affected due to water stagnation problem. Croplands and schools, colleges and madrassahs will go under water if TRM is not implemented immediately. Ranjit Bawali, convener of the committee, Iqbal Kabir Jahid, politebureau member, Workers Party of Bangladesh who is adviser of the committee, Baikuntha Bihari Roy, Gazi Ahdul Hamid, Abdul Hamid and other leaders of the committee were present during the programme.Earlier, the committee announced month-long agitation programmes from 25th July to 20 August to press its demand.
Eid-ul-Azha celebrated in Bagerhat

The Holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest and important religious ceremony of the Muslim community was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its all the nine Upazilas with due respect, pomp and splendor on Weduesday as else where of the country. The biggest Eid congregation was held in the historic Saitgumbaz mosque of great saint Hazrar Peer Khaja Khan Jahan Ali (peace be on him), 8 kilometers away from here. It was attended by thousand of devotee Muslims including Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and Al-haj Adv. Mir Shswkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2. Eid congregation was also held in Bagerhat Alia Madrasa premises, Bagerhat Central (old court) mosque, Mithapukur mosque, Railway mosque, Nagerbazar mosque, PTI mosque, Basabati mosque, WAPDA mosque, Launchghat mosque and all other mosques of the district town. After Eid congregation special prayer was held for peace, tranquility, integrity and prosperity of the country which should be free from militancy, terrorism and communalism. Prayer was also held for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah. This year most of the Muslim devotees sacrificed animals in the name of Almighty Allah on Wednesday in share with others for due to high prices of sacrificial animals. Some of them performed the Kurbani on the following day.
JCD factions clash injures 8 at Barishal

At least 8 activists were injured and one detained by police after a clash between two factions over formation of district and city units of Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Friday noon in Barishal city. The clash started after post-deprived group of JCD activists organized an agitation rally and procession led by Sohel Rari, organizing secretary of the previous committee, at about 11: 00 AM Friday in front of party office at Ashwini Kumar Hall compound. The rival factions led by Mahfuzur Rahman Mithu district president of the announced committee and his associates hearing this also assembled in front of party office and held counter rally. Then both factions engaged in clash with sharp and lethal weapons and exchanged brick bats. The clash spread to Sadar Road and surrounding areas of the party office around 12 noon creating panic for about half-an hour. At least 8 JCD activists received were injured in the clash, witnesses said. Police interfering in the matter charging baton dispersed the clashing groups and detained one of the post deprived groups named Zakir Hossain Rimon with sharp weapon, said Sub Inspector Mohiuddin, of Kotwali Police Station. Mentionable tensions between the two factions of post holders and post deprived of JCD created after announcement of district and city unit committees on August 19 by the central JCD.
