Manasa Puja held at the historical Manasa-Mandir

 Manasha Puja (worship of Manasa, the Hindu deity of snakes) held at the 525 years old historical Manasa Mandir of Bijoy Gupta, the ancient poet of Manasa Mangol, in Goila under Agoiljhara upazila of Barishal on Friday. A three days long Royani Utsav, the festival of recitation and playing lyrics on Devi Manasa and a village fair, also arranged on this occasion under special security arrangements. Goats were sacrificed, milk and sweetmeats were dedicated and Manasa Mangol Punthi was recited in the festival started from early Friday. Prices of milk was increased up to Tk.60-70 per liter and banana was sold at the rate of Tk.96-100 per dozen in the area on this occasion as those were used in the ritual of worship of Devi Manasa, the deity of snake. Hundreds of Devotees from different parts of the country and subcontinent including snake charmers, gypsies attended the festival and puja of Devi Manasa to save from snake bites and earn eternal peace and prosperity. Rabindranath Adhikari, Sebayet of the Mandir, said huge worshipers from different parts of the Bangladesh and West Bengal of India including a good number of gypsies and snake charmers came to observe the festival and participate in the Puja. Ajoy Dasgupta, advisor of the mandir committee and deputy editor of daily Samakal, said this historical Manasa Mandir of Goila was more than five hundred years old and connected with the memories of Bijoy Gupta, the great poet of Manasa Mangol in Bangla language.
Four shops fined Tk 2 lakh in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Four shops were fined Taka two lakh here yesterday on charges of manufacturing and selling unhygienic and sub-standard food items. A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a raid in Keshorehat Bazar area under Mohanpur upazila in the district. The team found the shops named MR Enterprise, Narayan Stores, Sotota Enterprise and Abul Stores involved in preparing, possessing and selling consumer items in unhygienic condition. Subsequently, the team fined the shop owners Tk one lakh, Tk 50,000, Tk 30,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively. During the drive, goods including 20,000 packets of biscuits and 100 packets of cigarettes worth around Taka 37.08 lakh were destroyed. Apurba Adhikary, Assistant Director of DNCRP, said such drive against the violations
of consumers’ rights would be continued in the days to come, reports BSS.
Video on village court affairs at Rampal

Videos have been displayed in Rampal on Monday on Village Court Activation Project (2nd Phase) with the financial and technical assistance of Local Government Department , EU and UNDP. This program has been implemented by their local supportive organization Wave Foundation. The videos have been displayed in the four Wards of four Union including Rampal Sadar Union, Perikhali Union , Bashntali Union and Mollikerber Union.The aim of the program is to know the service and benefit as well as to aware the people of the the Village Court. At that time , member of the concerned ward representatives of the Civil Society, Upazila Co-ordinator of the Program, people of different classes and professions and village court assistant were present in the function. After the programme, a quiz programme was also arranged and distributed prize among the winners.
