Anti -drug rally, plantation programme held

Human Rights Citizen Forum, a local human rights organisation arranged an anti-drug and tree plantation programme at local S.V Girl’s school in the town on Tuesday noon. Professor Dr. Mahafuz Pervez of Chittagonj University and Senior Magistrate Abu Taher Sayeed attended as Chief Guest and innugatred at the function while Citizen Fourm President Ahamad Farid in the chair. It was addressed among others by Hindu Kallan Trusti Senior Advocate Dholon Bhowhmik, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, S.V Govt. Girls’ High School Headmaster Shahanewanej Kabir, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, and Tareque Minhaj Choton. Later, 51 trees were planted at S.V School premise.
Disruption of rural electricity in Sharankhola protested

A human chain and demonstration rally was held on the road adjacent to the Press Club on Wednesday demanding a new line in Barihathat’s Dalhal Chakra for extorting millions of crores of rupees in the name of senior power earners and paying extra money to the electricity bill from the customers. It is a continuous second day program against various irregularities and corruption of rural electricity. During the process of human bondage held in the banner of conscious citizen society, the speakers said that rural power is destroying people in Sharankhola. They are hand in hand with extra money from customers. To pay the bills, it is going to count for an additional 5 to 12 rupees. Charging of service charges, demand charge and meter rent is being deducted. Intriguing electricity bills are created by harassing the customers. Despite the payment of the bill the bill is being reclaimed. These amendments are being carried out at the DGM office in neighboring Morjalganj district, where 25 thousand subscribers of the upazila are being harassed. In addition to taking the new line in the village village, the names of the officials named in the name of the broker is handling the billions of crores of taka. 16 shops gutted at Patarhut

A devastating fire gutted 16 shops at Patarhut under Mehendiganj Upazila of Barishal on Tuesday noon. Bankim Chandra Haldar, station officer of Mehendiganj Fire Service, said the fire instigated from a cooker of sweetmeat shop rapidly spread in the market at about 12:30 noon. Fire fighters succeeded to extinguish the flame within two hours. Blowing speedy wind spread the fire rapidly. Dipak Kumar Roy, upazila nirbahi officer of Mehendiganj, said list of gutted 16 shop-owners has been prepared and every one would be given cash Tk 10 thousand and one mounds of rice as primary relief. In next Upazila Parishad will also help them. Yousuf Ali, one of the affect shop owners, said fire stated from a cooker of sweetmeat at Temuhini areas of Patarhut Bandar of Mehendiganj upazila Sadar and rapidly spread to adjacent shops due to blowing of speedy wind at that time. At least 20 shops damaged and 16 of those gutted fully till it was extinguished by fire service. The fire damaged properties more than 50 lakhs making any of us virtually penny-less.
