641 Panchagarh houses get electric connection
PANCHAGARH: Around 641 houses in seven villages of district’s Debiganj upazila has been brought under power network. Local lawmaker Advocate Nurul Islam Sujon formally inaugurated the electrification programme at a function on Ramgonj Bilashi Eidgah ground on Friday evening as the chief guest. Thakurgaon Palli Bidyut Samity implemented the programme at a cost of Taka about 2 crore. The function was addressed, among others, by Upazila Parishad Chairman Hasnat Zaman Chowdary Jarje, Palli Bidyut Samity Junior Engineer Rezaul Karim, Upazila Awami League President A.S.M. Nuruzzaman, Tapriganj Union Awami League President Md Shajahan while Tapriganj UP chairman Golam Rahman was in the chair. About 2 thousands Awami League leaders and workers were present at function, reports BSS.
3 SUST students get AF Mujibur Rahman gold medal

Three students of Mathematics department of University of Shahjalal Science and Technology (SUST) have received AF Mujibur Rahman gold medal for their brilliant results in honours and masters levels. The awardees are Ratna Pal, honours student of 2011-2012 session, Amit Kumar Chakraborty, master’s level student (thesis group) of 2013-14 and Shahidul Islam, master’s student of the same session. SUST Vice-chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed distributed the gold medals and certificates among the students at the university’s Mini Auditorium on Tuesday. The Vice-chancellor said the university is for the students and all the teachers should stand beside them. ‘All the teachers have the responsibility to make the students fit for the future and open new doors of knowledge for them.’ ‘This scholarship given by AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation will encourage the students to study more,’ he said. Mathematics department Head Prof Anwarul Islam presided over the meeting, while university Treasurer Ilias Uddin Biswas, dean of Physics department Ahmed Kabir, Student Welfare Adviser Rashed Talukder, executive director of AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation Chowdhury Muhammed Tayyub Tajammul, teachers and students of the department, among others, were present at the prize giving ceremony.
Housewife ‘commits’ suicide
A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at Jangalbari in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district on Friday. The deceased was identified as Rahima Khatun, 36, wife of Razzak Ali of the village.Nandan Kanti Dhar, officer-in-charge of Tahirpur Police Station, said Rahima, mother of five children, hanged herself from the ceiling of the house when she was alone in the house. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue. However, the reason behind her suicide could not be known yet.
