British Prime Minister Theresa May heads to President Emmanuel Macron’s “summer Elysee Palace” on the Mediterranean coast on Friday, seeking to soften resistance to a Brexit plan which has upended her government while failing to win over sceptical EU negotiators.
She and Macron will hold an “informal” two-hour meeting at Bregancon, a 17th-century fort long favoured by French presidents as a summer retreat.
Suicide bomb kills 10 in Afghanistan

A suicide bomb attack near a Shi’ite mosque killed at least 10 people during Friday prayers in eastern Afghanistan, police and health officials said.
No militant group has claimed responsibility for the explosion in the city of Gardez.
Police said they were trying to enter the mosque premises to help at least nine wounded people.
12 girls schools burnt down in Pakistan

Twelve girls’ schools have been burnt down by unidentified persons in coordinated attacks in Pakistan’s restive Gilgit-Baltistan, triggering protest by local residents who sought safety for educational institutions which are often attacked by the militants, a media report said on Friday.
The schools in Chilas town, about 130-kilometre from Gilgit, were targeted late last night by unidentified men who also damaged school property across Diamer district, police said.
Mongolia to expand cooperation with Australia

Mongolia is ready to work with Australia to expand bilateral cooperation and ties in a wide range of areas, including politics, economy, trade and culture, Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar said here Friday. Tsogtbaatar made the remarks when meeting with Australian Ambassador to Mongolia John Langtry.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed to increase high-level contacts and exchanges in all areas, and further enhance people-to-people contact between Mongolia and Australia, the Mongolian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
