Myanmar floods kill five

Rising floodwaters have killed at least five people and forced tens of thousands from their homes across swathes of Myanmar, a government official told AFP on Sunday, as heavy monsoon rains continue to batter the Mekong region.
Dramatic images showed vast areas of farmland completely submerged in muddy waters stretching to the horizon, with only the rooftops of some houses visible.

3 dead as gunmen open fire in New Orleans

Three people were killed and at least seven others were injured in a mass shooting in New Orleans late Saturday night, officials said. Police said two gunmen shot indiscriminately into a crowd at about 10:30 p.m. local time, about three miles from the city’s famed French quarter.
Three of the wounded were pronounced dead at the scene and seven others were taken to local hospitals. The conditions of the wounded were not immediately available.

Ex-Serbia leader’s lawyer shot dead

A leading lawyer who defended former Serbian strongman Slobodan Milosevic on charges of war crimes has been shot dead in Belgrade, police said Sunday.
Dragoslav Ognjanovic, who was gunned down Saturday night outside the apartment block where he lived, also represented a senior underworld figure, Serbian media reported.

8 killed in Balochistan road mishap

At least eight people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident in Pakistan’s southwest Balochistan province on Sunday evening, local reports said.The accident happened in Khuzdar district when a van turned turtle owing to over speeding, Samaa News said.The ill-fated van was reaching Khuzdar from Sialkot district of the country’s east Punjab province when it met the accident.
The injured people were shifted to a nearby hospital where several of them are said to be in critical condition.
