An Iranian news agency is reporting 10 border guards have been killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen near the Iraqi border.
The semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday that the attack took place the night before near the town of Marivan, in a Kurdish area of Iran some 620 kilometers (385 miles) west of the capital Tehran.
At least 10 dead in Vietnam floods

At least 10 people have died after floods spurred by Typhoon rains struck central and northern Vietnam, authorities said on Saturday.
The southeast Asian country is prone to monsoon storms and floods, which frequently claim hundreds of lives every year.
Taliban attack kills Afghan district police chief

At least two security personnel including a district police chief were killed as Taliban fighters stormed security checkpoints in Rashidan district of Afghanistan’s eastern Ghazni province on Saturday, provincial police chief Farid Ahmad Mashal said.
“A group of Taliban rebels stormed security checkpoints in Rashidan district early today morning to overcome the district headquarters but their conspiracy has been foiled and the attack repulsed. But unfortunately two police including the district police chief lost their lives in the firefight,” Mashal told Xinhua. The official said the Taliban fighters fled after suffering “huge casualties.”
13 dead in Mexico highway accident

At least 13 people were killed Friday and seven others wounded when a public transport van hit the back of a truck on a busy highway outside Mexico City, local officials said.
The incident occurred near the city of Ecatepec along the highway that connects Mexico City and nearby Pachuca, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) to the northeast.
Gunmen kill two cops in Dagestan

Unknown gunmen have shot dead two policemen in Russia’s volatile Caucasus in the latest attack against local authorities, police said on Saturday.
Assailants driving a Lada shot at a car carrying three traffic police outside the Dagestani town of Kizilyurt late Friday and fled, a police spokesman told AFP.
Vatican suspends Chilean deacon

The Vatican dismissed a Chilean deacon over sexual abuse accusations in central Chile, the archdiocese of the city of Rancagua said Friday, amid a widespread abuse scandal gripping the country’s Catholic Church.
Luis Rubio was arrested for improper conduct and sexual abuse of minors when he was in charge of a Las Cabras school in 2013.
