Five women get ‘Joyeeta Reception’ in Khulna
KHULNA: Five women were accorded ‘Joyeeta Reception’ here on Sunday afternoon for their success in five different sectors. Khulna divisional administration organised the function titled “Joyeeta Annesone Bangladesh” at Khulna officers’ club auditorium with the cooperation of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Directorate of Women Affairs. With Additional Divisional Commissioner (development) Nischinta Kumar Podder in the chair, the event was addressed by Khulna divisional commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia as the chief guest. Deputy Director of Local Government Division Israt Jahan and president of city unit muktijoddha command council Professor Md Alamgir Kabir attended the function as special guests. The function was also addressed, among others, by executive director of Sundarban Academy Prof Anwarul Kadir and Joyeeta Sakera Banu. Khulna women affairs officer Nargis Fatema Jabeen delivered the welcome speech. The speakers said government has taken various initiatives to create women-friendly atmosphere in the country so that the women can play an important role for country’s socioeconomic development, reports BSS.
Reception accorded to Dy Speaker at Fulchhari
GAIBANDHA: A rousing reception was accorded to Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Fazle Rabbi Miah by locals on Monday on the premises of Fulchhari Pilot High School of the district. The local people awarded the reception to deputy speaker of the House for his strides toward nationalizing Fulchhari Pilot High School and undertaking river bank protection work along the right bank of Brahmaputra from Balashighat to Ganakabar of Fulchhari upazila. Gaibandha Pourasabha Mayor Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon, Additional District Magistrate ABM Sadiqur Rahman, UNO Abdul Halim Tolstoy, Fulchhari Thana Officer-in-charge M. Belal Hossain, Head Teacher Milon Kumar Barman, Freedom Fighter Shamsul Alam and student Raonak Jahan addressed the function, among others. Fulchhari Upazila Parishad chairman and also chairman of the school managing committee M. Habibur Rahman presided over the ceremony. The speakers in their speeches expressed their gratefulness to the deputy speaker for nationalizing the school to ensure quality education and doing river bank protection work to save the homesteads and arable land of the area. They also wished good health and long life of Fazle Rabbi Miah so that hecould do more beneficial work for the people of his constituency during the tenure of the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The deputy speaker thanked the locals for arranging such a function and sought whole hearted cooperation of all to strengthen his hands for the development of Fulchhari upazila, repoprts BSS.
Robbers loot a house in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Robbers looted valuables from a house in Katia Sarker Para area of the district town early Tuesday. LitonHossain, manager of Al-Baraka Jewelers in Satkhira New Market, said a gang of masked robbers entered his house after cutting the grill of a window. The gang took the house inmates hostage at gunpoint and tied their hands and legs with rope, said the house owner. Later, they looted seven tolas of gold ornaments, four mobile sets and Tk 80,000 cash. Soon after the robbery, the gang fled the scene locking their rooms from outside. Later, neighbours rescued the house inmates in the morning, said the house owner. On information, police visited the spot, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, reports UNB.
