Jute godown gutted in Kurigram

Atleast five shops including a jute godown were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Baravita bazar under Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district early hours on Friday. The loss was estimated at Tk. ten lakh. Local sources said the fire was originated in an electric short circuit from a shoe store of one Emdadul Haque in the Baravita Bazar. The fire engulfed the adjacent shops of medicine; hotel, teas stalls shops of Afzal Hossain and jute godown rapidly. The fire fighters of Nageswari Fire Service rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Husband gets life for killing wife in Bogra

 The Women and Children Repression Tribunal-1 of Bogra announced the verdict of death sentence against a husband for killing his wife here in Bogra judge court on Thursday. The tribunal judge SM Saiful Islam pronounced the verdict after long hearing the case. Source said, that the victim was married with off the convict before 14/15 years ago before the killing and given birth 3 sons and he had been torturing her over dowry time to time. Reaz Uddin and his cohorts Abdur Razzak Molla, Ful Mahmud Fakir, Amzad Ali, Farid Uddin PK and Afzal Hossain tortured physically his wife Peyara Khatun over dowry to death. Following the information her brother and complainant of the case Momotazul Uddin Fakir went there and found her dead body and later her brother lodged a muder case on the act on that day with sadar police station and Sub-inspector (SI) of the PS Humun Kabir submitted a charged sheet in the court that year. After hearing of the witness of the both sides, the court of Bogra pronounced the verdict on Thursday afternoon. Contacted, Special Public Prosecutor (PP) Montejar Rahman Montu said that the honourable Judge pronounced the real verdict and the convict side can file appeal in the high court.
2 killed in Gazipur road crash
GAZIPUR: Two people, including a readymade garment factory worker, were killed in separate road accidents in the city on Friday. Highway police sources said a man was killed when a Dhaka-bound bus knocked down him on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Borobari in the city on Friday morning. The deceased identified as Rezaul Haque, 40, hailed from Maheshpur upazila in Jhenidah district. In another incident, a young man was killed when an unknown vehicle run over him at Targach in the city early Friday. The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 25, a worker of MSC Wear Garments Factory. He hailed from Sherpur sadar upazila. Police sent the bodies to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.
13 Shibir men among 14 held in Bogra
BOGRA: Police in an overnight drive arrested 13 activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student associate body of Jamaat-e-Islami, including its district unit president (North), and a leader of the Islamic party’s another affiliated organisation from different parts of the district early Friday. Police said a team of police conducted a raid on a mess house at Sutrapur in the town and arrested Azgar Ali, president of the town unit Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation, a Jamaat-affiliated organisation, around 12.00 am. After interrogating him, police conducted separate raids on different mess houses at Jamilnagar in the town and arrested 13 Shibir men including its district unit president (North) Enamul Haque Rana. They were shown arrested in several cases, including for vandalism and carrying out sabotage during the Jamaat-enforced hartal, said police, reports UNB.

Awami League and its associate organisations Monday brought out jubilation processions in Sylhet cities expressing satisfaction at the death sentence of Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 yesterday awarded death penalty to Joint Secratary of Jamaat-e-Islami Md. Kamaruzzaman for his crimes against humanity committed during the War of Liberation in 1971. Awami League district and city units and the party’s wing organisations brought out a procession in the city after ICT-2 verdict against war criminal Kamaruzzaman. They brought the procession from the city’s Court Point that marched several.
Valuables looted from house in Sylhet
SYLHET : Robbers looted valuables from the house of a local leader of BNP’s volunteer front Swechchhasebak Dal at Gopaltila in Tilagarh of the city early Thursday. Sources said a gang of robbers swooped on the house of Dipak Roy, convener of Shahparan thana unit Swechchhasebak Dal and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint around 4.00am. The bandits looted valuables, including three tolas of gold ornament and Tk35,000, from the house and decamped with the booty. A case was field in this connection, reports UNB.
