Minor girl drown in Natore pond
NATORE: A minor girl drowned in a pond at Rahimapur village in Bagatipara upazila on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Zhumur, 7, daughter of Mazedur Rahman of the village. She was a class II student of a primary school in the upazila. Soon after the missing incident, locals rescued the girl from a nearby pond of their house in senseless condition. Later, she was rushed to upazila health complex where the duty doctor declared her dead, reports UNB.
Man killed in Jhenaidah road crash
JHENAIDAH: A man was killed after being hit by a vehicle at Aruakandi village in Sadar upazila on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, 30, son of Kawsar Mandal of the village. Emdadul Haq Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said the accident took place in the area early in the morning, when a vehicle hit him while crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot. However, policecould not know which or what type of vehicle hit him, the OC added, reports UNB.
Tree Fair starts in Lalmonirhat

A seven day-long tree fair was inaugurated at Lalmonirhat jointly organised by District Agricultural Extension and Social Forest Department of Lalmonirhat on Saturday. The tree fair was inaugurated by Adv Safura Begum MP and presided by DC Shafiul Arif . Special guest was District Board Chairman Adv Motiar Rahman. Among others, Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Hoque , Rangpur Divisional Forest Officer Rafiquzzan Shah, Captain (rtd) Azizul Hoque Bir Protik . Bidhu Bhushon Ray, Deputy Director Agriculture Extension Department delivered the inaugural speech. About 34 stalls participate in the tree fair. Tree plants are distributed among one hundred thirty four peasants.

A female student of Sylhet MC College was killed as a speeding truck ran over her near Hetimganj market in Gopalganj municipality on Friday. The deceased was identified as Sheuli Akhter Rimi, 21, daughter of Noman Ali of Ghoshgaon area in the municipality and also a second-year student. Family sources said Rimi and her brother were going to Sylhet sadar riding on a motorcycle around 2pm. Suddenly, Rimi fell down from the motorcycle as their vehicle jerked after falling in a hole in the road. Within seconds of time, the speeding truck ran over Rimi, leaving her dead on the spot. AKM Fazlul Haque Shibli, officer-in-charge of Gopalganj Model Police Station, said police managed to seize the truck but its driver managed to flee the scene.
25 kg silver recovered at Satkhira border

Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered approximately 25 kg of Indian silver and an air gun by chasing smugglers at Satkhira Border yesterday. They were recovered from Kushkhali border of Satkhira Sadar upazila around 5am. But BGB members could not arrest anyone at the time. Nayek Subedar Hanif of Kushkhali BGB camp under Satkhira-33 BGB Battalion said that BGB members were patrolling anti-smuggling in the border under his leadership of that day. During this time, smugglers rushed from India with a large shipment of silver as soon as they entered the country and ran away from their sacks. Later, 24 kg of 950 grams of Indian silver and an airborne dagger were seized from that sack. The estimated value of the recovered silver is 16 lakh 4 thousand 295 rupees.
