Cop closed over Yaba smuggling in Habiganj

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Habiganj’s Bahubal police station was closed over smuggling yaba pills using his motorcycle. The ASI, identified as Kabir, was closed on Wednesday morning. Bahubal model police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Masuk Ali said higher authority ordered to close the ASI on Tuesday night. He also said a man named Salauddin, 22, was detained while smuggling yaba pills in Kabir’s motorcycle on Tuesday afternoon. A case was also filed against the detainee with concerned police station.
Two injured JCD rival clash
Pandemonium took place in front of a city hotel in Sylhet where BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Khandaker Abdul Muktadir was chased by a group of JCD workers who have been deprived of recently announced Sylhet Jatiyatabadi Cahatra Dal (JCD) , Sylhet City and District Units Committees. The JCD and BNP men gathered in order to welcome BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury there. The rebel- JCD leaders and activists who were present in-front of Roseview hotel at Mehendibag in Sylhet City chased Mr. Muktadir who ran into the hotel while his companions former JCD leaders Shahed Ahmed and A.F.M. Kamal were severely assaulted by the opponents. Police intervened and brought the situation under control. Later on, Central BNP leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury briefed the media men at BNP mayor candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury’s residence at Kumerpara this evening.  
Two drug traders sent to Magura jail
MAGURA: A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced two drug traders to six months imprisonment each for selling drugs in Magura Bus Terminal area. The convicts were identified as Humayun Ahmed, 22, of Barunatoil village and Raju Molla, 23 of Parnanduili village. Tipped off, a team of Narcotics Control Department arrested Humayun and Raju for selling drugs openly at the bus terminal and recovered 20 kgs of hemp from their possession. Later, they were produced before a mobile court led by AbuSufiyan, Sadar upazila executive magistrate and UNO who sentenced them to six months jail, reports UNB.
Minor girl drown in Tentulia pond
PANCHAGARH: A minor girl drowned in a pond at Kaliamani village in Debnagar union of Tentulia upazila on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Sonamoni, 7, daughter of Hamidul Islam of Konpara village in the same Union. Witnesses said Sonamoni fell into the water body unnoticed in the evening while her mother was working at a paddy field not far away. Later, local people spotted the body floating on the water and took it to Panchagarh Modern Hospital where duty doctors declared her dead, said Md Mahsinul Haque, UP chairman of the union parishad, reports UNB.
One electrocuted in Sherpur
SHERPUR: A man was electrocuted and his wife suffered injuries at Charsherpur Namapara village in Sadar upazila on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Zahurul Haq alias Jarul, 60, son of Magar Ali of the village. Quoting witnesses, police said the grandson of Zahurul came in contact of a live wire as he got trapped in an electric pole. When Zahurul tried to save his grandson, he got electrocuted himself, said Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station. Zahurul’s wife Hanufa Begum also sustained injuries while trying to save her husband. She was taken to Sherpur Hospital, reports UNB.
