Aiming to address the problems in Jute sector and light engineering sector Practical Action Bangladesh is implementing “Securing Employment and Economic Development around Jute Textile and Light Engineering Sector in North-West Bangladesh” project, through RDRS Bangladesh along with Rangpur Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Rangpur Zilla Lathe Machine Sromic Union and Karupannya Rangpur Limited with the funding support from the European Commission. The project started it’s activity from February 2017 in four districts – Rangpur, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram. In this regards 60 Jute Fiber Extraction Machines (Aashkol) were distributed among the entrepreneurs in four districts, among these 15 were at Rangpur district. A four days training on operation, maintenance, health and safety and other issues have been organised for the machine entrepreneurs in RDRS Bangladesh Rangpur. After the training a distribution ceremony have been organised yesterday at RDRS Bangladesh, Rangpur. The Chief Guest of the ceremony Dr. Md. Sarwarul Haque, Deputy Director, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Rangpur inaugurated the distribution ceremony.
Workshop on child protection, Children Act -2013 held

A workshop on child protection and Children Act 2013 was arranged by JJS and UNICEF with police officers of KMP at Hotel Castel Salam, Khulna. The workshop presided by ATM Zakir Hossain, Executive Director, JJS addressed the preventing and protective measures for children in conflict with the law according to Children Act 2013. Md Humayun Kabir, PPM, Police Commissioner, KMP presented as Chief Guest in the programmme. In the workshop Sheikh Mahenul Huque, Deputy Director of DSS, Khulna, Sonali Sen, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, KMP Khulna and Md Kafil Uddin, Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Khulna were present as special guests. Sonali Sen, Additional Police Commissioner, KMP said that all police to come forward to practice the Children Act. Deputy Director, Social welfare, Khulna Sheikh Mahenul Haque delivered his speech. Md Shafiqul Islam, Assistant Director, Probation, DSS, Dhaka was the resource person of the workshop. Jamil Hasan, Child Protection Officer, UNICEF, Khulna presented children justice system in a graphics through slide presentation. Kafil Uddin, Chief of field office, UNICEF, Khulna discussed about the Child protection and children rights according to UNCRC and children act 2013. The chair ATM Zakir Hossain, Executive Director of JJS raised the background of JJS in the field of children justice system. The entire program was moderated by MM Chisty, Coordinator, JJS.
