Easy-bike driver electrocuted in Magura
MAGURA: An easy-bike driver died from electrocution at Kashinathpur village in Sadar upazila yesterday morning. Bike driver Ronny Ahmed, 25, son of Towhid Matabbar, got electrocuted while he was connecting the charger of his easy-bike to an electricity line at his home around 7am and died on the spot, said Elius Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, reports UNB.
Seminar on use of arsenic devices held in Jashore
JASHORE: A seminar on the use of arsenic devices was held at Ueno Arsenic Centre here on Sunday. Asia Arsenic Network (AAN), Japan organised the seminar funded by the USAID with Sachie Tsushima, AAN country manager, in the chair. Speakers at the seminar discussed the technical side of the use of arsenic devices supplied by the AAN. Additional Deputy Commissioner Debprosad Paul, Associate Professor Dr Saibur Rahman Mollah of environment science and technology department at Jessore University of Science and Technology, USAID representative Shayan Shafi and AANPrincipal Investigator Dr Ahammadul Kabir were, among others, present on the occasion, reports UNB.
Two brick kilns fined Taka 25,000 in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Two brick kilns were fined Taka 25,000 on charge of cheating on consumers in the district on Sunday. A team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted raids in some brick kilns situated in Ashgram and Madhupur areas under Paba upazila. The team, during the drive, found Azam Bricks Limited and AAA Bricks Limited guilty and fined them Taka 5,000 and Taka 20,000 respectively. The team also realised the fine instantly. Apurba Adhikary, assistant director of DNCRP, said such drive against violation of consumers’ rights will continue in future, reportys BSS.
RAB arrests four drug traders in Sylhet

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives arrested four suspected drug traders along with 2,110 pieces of Yaba tablets from Zakiganj upazila in Sylhet on Saturday night. In Sylhet, RAB arrested a suspected drug trader along with 2,010 Yaba tablets from Eidgao Bazar area in Zakiganj upazila on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Md Faruk Ahmed, 33, son of Nuruddin of Loharmahar village in Zakiganj upazila, and a listed drug trader, says a RAB press release.
Setting up of solar street lights progressing fast
KHULNA: Setting up of solar LED and non LED light over 58.8 kilometres roads at Khulna City Corporation (KCC) is progressing fast. A total of 77 solar LED and 2, 729 non LED light and 1947 electricity polls are being set up in the city corporation area, said an official of KCC. He said already 700 electricity polls have been set up in the city in last month. The KCC authority has taken the project involving Taka 22 crore in cooperation with Asian Development Bank (ADB) last year. Executive Engineer of KCC (Electricity) Zahid Hossain Sheikh told BSS that KCC has taken the Solar LED project instead of sodium light as the latter is very expensive. The environment friendly light will save electricity bill, he said, adding the bulbs also help curb crimes including mugging, robbery, stealing and road accident in the city, reports BSS.
2 held with deer, pistols in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Members of Coast Guard arrested two suspected poachers along with three deer and two pistols from Deboki in the Sundarbans under Satkhira range yesterday. The arrestees were identified as Abdul Aziz, and Anarul Islam of Shyampur upazila. A team of coast guards conducted the drive in the area around 2:30amand arrested the duo along with deer and pistols from the spot, said Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station, reports UNB.
