 Schoolgirl commits suicide

An eight-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her room in Bagha Upazila on Friday morning. According to local sources, Bithi Khatun, 8, a student of class IV of local primary school and daughter of Imdadul Haque at Noutika village under the upazila, hanged herself as her mother scolded her on Friday morning. Officer in charge (OC) of Bagha police station said in this regard that the suicide incident of the minor girl is very sorrowing. However, the deceased’s body was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) morgue for autopsy, OC added.
Bicycles distributed among 100 students

One hundred bicycles were distributed among 100 students of different educational institutions in Bagerhat Sadar Upazila at free of cost at a ceremony held in the Upazila Parishad premises on Tuesday. Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat handed over the bicycles to the students. On the occasion, DC said, bicycle is a very useful, health agreed and low cost vehicle. Once upon a time it was used by the lower class to higher class people. But due to the gradual development of science and technology the use of bicycle was reduced to a great extent and in course of time it will take place in the museum. Khan Mujibor Rahman, Chairman of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parishad and Md. Tanzilur Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Bagerhat Sadar were present on the occasion. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer told, it was earlier decided that bicycles will be distributed among 100 poor and needy and students of the Upazila from the Upazila Development Fund and accordingly, 100 students were selected by the respective Union Paishad.
Fruit bearing, timber tree fair begins in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A week-long fruit bearing and timber tree fair began on the premises of Independence Square of the town here on Friday amid much enthusiasm to all the concerned. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and Social Forest Department (SFD) jointly have arranged the fair in cooperation with district administration. A discussion meeting was also held on Friday afternoon with deputy director of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin in the chair. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief guest and additional police super Moynul Haque, and divisional forest officer, Rangpur Rafiquzzaman Shah, were present as the special guests. Additional deputy director (Crop) Shawkat Osman, general secretary of district nursery owners’ association Abdus Salam and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman spoke at the function among others while Sadar upazila agriculture officer AKM Sadiqul Islam was the moderator, reports BSS.
Brick kiln fined Tk 50,000 in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI : A brick kiln has been fined Taka 50,000 on charge of cheating on consumers in the district on Wednesday. A team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted raids in some brick kilns situated in Zamadarni area under Godagari upazila. During the drive, the team found BBF Bricks Ltd guilty and fined them Taka 50,000. The team also fined Shihab Bakery Taka 7,000 in another drive at Medical crossing under the same upazila.The bakery was found guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling food items in unhygienic condition. Apurba Adhikary, assistant director of DNCRP, said such drive against violation of consumers’ rights will continue in future, reports BSS.
