ASA disburses Tk 4,000-cr loan in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: ASA, a non-government development organization, has disbursed loan worth over Taka 4,000 crore among its 10.5 lakh members in Rajshahi division in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. The organization has also set a target of disbursing loan of Taka 6,000 crore during the next financial year in the division for eradicating its poverty. This was revealed at Rajshahi Divisional Coordination Meeting of the organization at Hotel Nice International in the city on Wednesday. Around 118 officials of the organization working in different areas of the division joined the daylong meeting. Former cabinet secretary and senior deputy president of ASA addressed the meeting as chief guest. Executive Vice-president Sushil Kumar Roy, Operational Manager Foyzar Rahman, Accounts and Finance Manager Dr Tofayefur Rahman and Programme Director Abdus Samad also spoke, reports BSS.
4 shops gutted in Bagerhat

Some 4 shops were gutted when a big fire broke out at Saitgumbaz are within Saitgumbz Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday noon, according to a report received here. It is guessed that the fire, perhaps, originated from an electricity short circuit in one of the shops, spread to its adjacent shops and within moments it went out of control. On seeing the flame of fire local people rushed to the spot and tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. As a result, as many as four shops with all their belongings were completely burnt to ashes. The gutted shops included a furniture shop, one Homeopathic Medicine Pharmacy, a shop of LP gas and gas cylinders and a workshop including a go-down. According to Shaikh Akhtaruzzaman Baschu, the concerned UP Chairmn, the loss of fire was estimated at Tk.35 to Tk.40 lakh. Being informed of the matter Shaikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, General Secretary of Bagerhat district Awami League and Zila Parishad Chaiman of Bagerhat and Tanzilur Rahman, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Bagerhat Sadar visited the place of occurrence and consoled the owners of gutted shops. Another report states that a grocery shop belonging to one Al-Mamun Hawladar of village Kumlai within Baintala Union Parishad under Rampal Upazila in the same district was gutted when it caught fire from an electricity short circuit at the night of Monday.
Boro rice procurement continues in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Boro rice procurement drive of FoodDepartment has been continuing in the district since May amid much enthusiasm to the millers and the officials. Office sources said the government has fixed a target to procure a total of 21,616 tonnes of boiled rice and 3,200 tonnes of Atap rice from the millers through 11 purchasing centers of all the seven upazilas in the district during the current Boro season. Price of per kg of boiled rice and Atap rice has also been fixed at Taka 38 and Taka 37 respectively, the sources said. To make the Boro rice procurement drive a grand success, the department offood has also performed their agreement with 487 millers of the district. Of the total, 14,088 tonnes of boiled rice and 1,900 tonnes of Atap rice had already been purchased from the millers, said an official of the Food Department. M Amzad Hossain, district controller of food, said the rice procurement target must be achieved easily as it would continue in the district till August, 2018, reports BSS.
