SUST to reopens after Eid, summer vacation

The academic activities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) resumed yesterday bafter Eid-ul-Fitr and summer vacation. Ishfaqul Hossain, registrar of the university, said that the academic activities were suspended from 20th May while the official activities from May 27. The students have already started to return to their dormitories.
Brilliant, poor students accorded reception in Baraigram

A total 50 brilliant and poor students were accorded reception on last Friday under the auspices of Nitainagar Amara Foundation in Baraigram upazila of Natore district. Also, one lakh four hundred taka was given them as a stipend. This stipend was given to the poor students at different scale on the basis of different class and session of the schools, colleges, madrashas and universities. On the occasion, a function was held at the ground of Amara Foundation. The function was presided over by Superintendent of Accounts (Revenue), Ministry of Land of Bangladesh Government and Chairman of the Amara Foundation Md Enamul Hoque. Upazila Assistant Commissioner of Land Avujith Bashak was present as a Chief Guest. Assistant Professor of History Department of the Rajshahi University and Executive Member of the Foundation Md Golam Sarwar was present as a special guest in the function. It was also addressed among others by the Principal of the Rajshahi ABC School and College and General Secretary of the Foundation Afroza Khandaker, Senior Journalist Md Saifur Rahman and a beneficiary of the Foundation, student of Rajshahi University Tania Khatun. Chief guest, special guests and other speakers delivered their valuable speech wishing delight future of the students. Also, Chief guest and special guests gave away one lakh four hundred taka as stipend, crests and flower sticks among them. This function was conducted by Assistant Upazila Education Officer and Member of the Foundation Rozi Khondaker.
Confce on role of providing health care services held

A day-long round table conference stressing on role of journalists providing health care services to adolescent and youth health and transgender people held at conference room of Hotel Sedona in the city on Saturday. The programme was organised by development organisation Bandhu Social Welfare Society and participated by journalists of print and electronic medias working in the city. In the programme audio-visual presentations on key-notes were delivered by Fasiul Ahsan, advocacy director and Mashiur Rahman, senior programme officer of ‘Bandhu’. Among the participant Dr. Nilima Das, journalists Murad Ahmed, Akhtar Faruk Shahin, Kazi Miraz, Sushanta Ghosh, Swapan Khondokar, and Khan Rafik took part in the discussion. The journalists agreed that media houses may open some potential doors of opportunities for the gender diverse population. The meeting was fruitful and effective as some important recommendations like including related issues in the educational curriculum, awareness building, making social contact and social discussions with giving honorable status to the stake holders came out of the discussions. The discussants stressing on providing health care services to adolescent and youth and transgender people said it was very important to develop sound mental and physical health of the social environment as well as development of the nation. So all members of the family and society should aware about that and come forward to assist the stake holders.
