Lightning kill two in Magura
MAGURA : Two people were killed and three others injured as a thunderbolt hit them while enjoying boat journey on Madhumati River in Vellakandi area of Mohammadpur upazila on Saturday evening. The deceased were identified as Md Ramjan Ali, 30, and Shorif Ali, 25, of Datidah village in the upazila.Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said Ramjan and Shorif along with three others went on a pleasure trip by boat in the river. Suddenly, they a thunderbolt struck them around 6 pm leaving the duo dead on the spot and others injured.Later, the injured were rushed to Mohammadpur Hospital immediately. A case of unnatural death was filed with the police station, the OC added, reports UNB.
Five shops gutted in B’baria
BRAHMANBARIA: Five shops were gutted in a fire which broke out at a market in the municipality area on Monday night. Fire service sources said the fire originated from electric short circuit at a shop at Brahmanbaria School Market and soon spread to the adjoining four shops. On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts, reports UNB.
Man killed over unpaid loan in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR: A man was allegedly killed in Sadar Upazila’s Naldagi area late Sunday by miscreants over unpaid loan interest. Identified as Abu Sayed Majhi, son of Abu Taher and hailing from Naldagi, he was said to have taken loan from money lender Belal Uddin recently, but reportedly could not repay his full loan interest on time. After a verbal scuffle on Sunday evening, Belal had gathered his people later that night, called Sayed to come out of his house and had beaten him to death, Sayed’s relatives alleged. Police later retrieved the body on Monday afternoon and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. Chandraganj police station officer-in-charge Md Jafar Ahmed said that Abu Sayed Majhi was killed over unpaid loan interests. They arrested one Sagor Uddin after the incident, with preparation underway for case filing, reports UNB.
Driver killed in Noakhali
NOAKHALI: A person was killed and 15 others were injured when a bus dashed into a roadside house at Chasirhat Bazar in Sonaimuri upazila on Tuesday morning.The deceased was identified as bus driver Md Parvez, 29, son of Abdur Rahim of Aamki village of the upazila.The Noakhali-bound bus of ‘Himachal Express’ from Dhaka hit the roadside house as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the driver dead on the spot and 15 injured, said Md Nasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station.The injured were taken to Noakhali General Hospital and other private hospitals of the district town, the OC added, reports UNB.
Sherif orders to complete development projects by June
ISWARDI: Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif recently ordered concerned officials to complete government’s development projects within the month of June. “All the pending works should be completed within this month. You have to be cautious so that no misuse of money takes place,” he said. The minister said these while addressing a views-exchange meeting with public and private officials and members of the civil society in Iswardi and Atgharia this morning. “We cannot forget the fact that we have a goal and a vision, the vision of building developed Bangladesh. We will achieve our goal for sure through united efforts,” Sherif added. The minister urged all to cast their ballots for Awami League in the next general election, reports BSS.
