Woman killed in C’nawabganj road mishap

An unidentified woman was killed as she was crushed under the wheels of a covered van at Pukuria under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on the Chapainawabganj-Sonamasid highway on Saturday morning. Sub-inspector Ainul Hoque of Shibganj thana said, as a woman of 25 was crossing the road at around 10 am at Pukuria, a covered van crushed her under its wheels killing her on the spot.Being informed police from Shibganj thana recovered the dead body and sent it to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The dead body could not be identified till 1-45 pm, he added. The covered van fled away.
British HC visits Sylhet

Ms Alison Blake, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh visited Sylhet on Tuesday. During her two-day visit, she met with senior government officials, members of parliament, the Sylhet mayor and business leaders, and also hosted an iftar reception on 5th June. While in Sylhet, she visited the new British Council Sylhet Office, the VFS UK Visa Application Centre, and also met with the Sylhet Divisional Commissioner and the DIG, Sylhet Range. Concluding her visit HE Alison Blake said, ‘There is nowhere in Bangladesh where the ties with the UK are stronger than here in Sylhet and among this community. The Sylheti contribution to the UK, and the British contribution to Bangladesh are unique – no other friend to Bangladesh enjoys such a privileged position.’ ‘I was delighted to get to see the new British Council Sylhet Office with its spacious and better equipped facilities, and also to visit the UK Visa Application Centre and learn about the customer services provided by the VFS office in Sylhet.’
Seminar on young entrepreneurs held
RAJSHAHI: Substantial and sustainable promotion ofprivate sector investment can be the crucial means of bolstering economic activities of Rajshahi region along with improving its people’s living and livelihood condition. Emphasis should be given to removing the existing obstacles in the field of private sector investment towards encouraging the entrepreneurs for investment here. The views were expressed at a seminar by some speakers who urged the
entrepreneurs to flourish their business through investment in the region as it has enormous prospects in this field. Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) organized the seminar titled “Creation of Young Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh: Challenge and Prospects” at a city restaurant on Saturday evening. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman addressed the seminar aschief guest with BIDA Executive Mem ber Nabhash Chandra Mondal in the chair. Deputy commissioner of Rajshahi SM Abdul Kader, president of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce Industries Md Muniruzzaman and social worker Shaheen Akhter spoke as special guests, reports BSS.
Boy electrocuted in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: A schoolboy was killed after being electrocuted at Laskarbari village in Saltha upazila on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Laden Hawladar, 15, son of Ahmed Hawladar of the village. He was a class nine student of Laskardia High School in the upazila. Gatti Union Parishad Chairman Habibur Rahman Lablu said Laden was electrocuted around 7 pm while repairing a live electric wire, reports UNB.
