Auto driver held for harassing RU female student

Police on Tuesday detained the driver of three-wheeler who allegedly harassed a female student of Rajshahi University (RU) sexually on campus on Saturday evening. The driver was identified as Md Akhash Ali, 23, son of Khalilur Rahman, a resident of Vagirathpur area at Boalia Police Station under the city. Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Motihar Police Station Mahbub Alam, told The New Nation that they arrested Akash from Choddopai area of the city along with his three-wheeler. “We had been searching him from Sunday after RU pro-vice chancellor asked us to find out the driver, and after a long struggle we found him in the area”, he said. Shahadat Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of the police station told The New Nation that Akash was sent to jail after producing before a court in a case filed in this connection. Earlier, Akash molested and harassed an MBA student of the university sexually near the university Begum Khaleda Zia Hall where she used to reside, while she was returning her hall alone on foot at 6:20pm from the university fine arts faculty. On the following day, the victim girl submitted a written complaint to the university authority asking immediate punishment of the rickshaw puller, and later on Monday filed a case with the police station accusing the rickshaw puller.

3 get 2 -yr jail for yaba trade in Kishoreganj

A mobile of RAB- 14 led by Senior Megistrate Abu Taher Sayeed in a drive at Batrish area in Kishoreganj town on Monday night. The mobile court gets three young men two person jailed and fined Tk. 20,000/- each for yaba treading. RAB- 14 recovered 100 piece yaba tablets their position. The convicted persons are Sabuj (35), Romel Mia (22) and Abdul Quaim (32). They were sent to Kishroeganj district jail.

Petrol pump owner arrested with pistol, yaba

A team of Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 on early Monday arrested one Sheikh Md. Salam, 50, from his residence at Obaidur Rahman Mustafa Road of south Alekanda area of the city. He was owner of Sheikh Filling Station of Charkawa area of the city. One pistol, a magazine and 90 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from his possession, RAB-8 issuing press note on Monday noon said. The arrestee was handed over to police with recovered items after lodging case under arms and narcotics control acts with Kotwali police station by Zahirul Islam, deputy assistant director of RAB-8, as complainant. The arrestee sent to jail on Monday afternoon after producing before the court, said Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, officer in charge of the police station.
