Child meets tragic end in Fakirhat

Radim Hasan (5), son of one Kabir Shaikh of village Brahminrakdia under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district met his tragic end when he was drowned in a fish farm of the village on Monday morning. It is learnt from the locals that in the morning the ill-fated boy went to a fish farm of the village along with other members of the family to see the catching of fish from the fish farm. But unfortunately the boy, some how, slipped from the bank of the fish farm and was drowned in it without the knowledge of others. After a long search the body of the boy was recovered from the fish farm and brought him to Fakirhat Upazila Helath Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
School student drowns in Boraigram pond

A school student Sharna Khatun (7) was drowned in a pond water in Baraigram under Natore district on Sunday evening. Sharna Khatun was a daughter of Sujon Ali of the village Shibpur under Baraigram upazila and student of Narayanpur Govt.Pri. School. She went with her mother at grand-father’s house Darikhoir. His grand-father Hannan Ali said, Sharna went to a nearby pond for taking bath in absence of her mother in afternoon. She did not know swimming. Not seeing her, we began searching. At last, we got her dead body under a pond water in the evening on Sunday.
Drug trader, another jailed in Magura
MAGURA: A mobile court here on Thursday sentenced two people, including a drug peddler, to six months imprisonment for selling drugs at Arpara Bazar in Shalikha upazila. They are Emdadul Biswas, 23, son of Quader Biswash of Balrampur village in Bagharpara and Zillu Sheikh, 40, son of Arpara village in Shalikha upazila. A mobile court led by UNO of Shalikha upazila and executive magistrate Sumi Majumdar conducted a drive in the area and arrested a drug peddler and a drug abuser along with 500 grams hemp in the afternoon, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station. Later, the mobile court sentenced them to six months imprisonment each, repots UNB.
2 killed in Lalmonirhat road crash
LALMONIRHAT: Two people were killed and five others injured when a tractor hit a CNG run auto-rickshaw on Lalmonirhat-Burimari highway at Kamarer Haat in Patgram upazila early Friday. The deceased were identified as Latif Hossain, 35 and Tanjina Khatun, 28, daughter of Aminur Rahman of Paschim Sardubi village in Hatibandha upazila. Sazzad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Patgram Police Station, said the accident took place around 1:00 am when the tractor hit the CNG run auto-rickshaw, leaving two autorickshaw passengers dead on the spot and four others injured. The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, repots UNB.
Workshop on migrant workers held in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Officials at a views-exchange workshop here have said the present government puts maximum importance on strengthening services for Bangladeshi migrant workers to ensure their welfare both at home and abroad. The Wage Earners’ Welfare Board (WEWB) of the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry and International Labour Organisation (ILO) jointly organised the event in the conference room of deputy commissioner (DC) on Wednesday afternoon. Director (Finance and Welfare) of the WEWB and joint secretary of the ministry Md Shafiqul Islam attended the workshop titled ‘Strengthening Services for Bangladeshi Migrant Workers’ as the chief guest. With Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib in the chair, acting president of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, director (local government) for Rangpur Ruhul Amin Mian, assistant director of District Employment and Manpower Office Amena Pervin, principal of Rangpur Technical Training Centre Md Lutfar Rahman, addressed the workshop as special guests, reports BSS.
