PM Modi, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur today on the second leg of his three-nation tour, met Prime Minister Mahathir in his office at Perdana Putra Complex, Putrajaya.

Fighting escalates in Libya’s Derna: UN

Fighting has escalated in the Libyan city of Derna, with air raids, shelling of residential areas and heavy ground clashes, the United Nations humanitarian office said on Thursday. There were severe water, food and medicine shortages, and electricity and water were completely cut off for the city’s 125,000 residents, it said in a report that described the violence as “unprecedented” there.

Mexico front-runner’s lead widens

Mexican presidential front-runner Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has extended his lead well beyond his nearest rivals with just a month to go before the July 1 election, an opinion poll showed on Thursday. The survey by polling firm Parametria showed support for the leftist former mayor of Mexico City at 45 percent, an increase of six percentage points from a prior April poll.

New child adoption scandal engulfs Ireland

The birth certificates of 126 children adopted in Ireland between 1946 and 1969 were doctored to show their new families as their biological parents, the government admitted on Wednesday. The births were illegally registered after the children were placed with new families by adoption agency St Patrick’s Guild, according to Tusla, the country’s child and family agency.
