KURIGRAM: Around 100 people were injured as rabid dogs bit them at different parts of the district town in the last three days, creating panic among locals.Of them, 40 were bitten on Tuesday alone while the rest on Sunday and Monday in municipality Bazar, Dadamor, LGED intersection, Matherpar, Razarhat and Dak Bungalowpara areas, said victims.Devotees while returning home after saying Fazr prayers at mosques and the long-route passengers were the worst victims.Of the injured, one got admitted to a local hospital while 60 received vaccination, reports UNB.
45,000 liters liquor destroyed, 22 held in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 45,000 liters of country-made liquor and arrested 22 people involved in drug-addiction and trading from different areas in the district on Thursday. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a raid at Vaya Luxmipur area under Charghat Upazila and seized the huge liquor and arrested six persons in this connection. Another RAB team arrested 16 persons for their alleged involvement in addiction of drugs and its trading after conducting a raid at Guripara area under Rajpara Police Station in the metropolis. Afterwards, a mobile court convicted and sentenced all the arrested people to different terms of jail. The seized drugs were also destroyed in front of public in general based on the court order, reports BSS.
373 houses get power connection in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ: A total of 373 houses in three villages of Betila Union under Sadar Upazila of the district have been brought under rural electrification network (REB) by Manikganj Palli Bidyut Samity. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malek, MP, as the chief guest inaugurated the electrification programme at a function held in Palora- Mitora new bridge area on Friday. Betila Union Parishad Chairman Md Nasiruddin presided over the function addressed, among others, by Manikganj District Awami League General Secretary and Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdus Salam and District Palli Bidyut Samiti Deputy General Manager (DGM) Badrul Anam. The state minister said about 80 percent people of the country are now enjoying electric facilities, adding Sheikh Hasina’s government is working for the welfare of the mass people, reports BSS.
Training for women begins in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A three-month long training for women has begun at the training centre of Sinnomul Mohila Samity (SMS) of the town here on Wednesday morning. An inaugural session organised by SMS was also held under Empowering Ultra Poor Women through Developing Para Vet project funded by Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, office sources said. Additional deputy commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest and District Livestock Officer Dr Abdul Latif was present at the event as special guest. With executive director of SMS Murshidur Rahman Khan in the chair, the inaugural session was also addressed, among others, by assistant director ABM Masudunnabi Lipon and training facilitator Dr Rehena Begum. Shamsul Alam said the project will be implemented by SMS at 13 unions of Sadar upazila for the term of three years and a number of women would be imparted free training here to make them para veterinarian, reports BSS.
